No laptops in the cinema!
p2pnet news view | P2P | Movies:- A significant number of movies — most? — which show up on the P2P networks originate in Hollywood as screeners, work prints and other associated ‘product’.
But through their MPAA, the major studios insist their problems centre on kids with camcorders of the kind made by Sony, one of the loudest complainers.
Nowadays, you can’t go to the cinema without fear of being hassled by an eager usher with night vision specs, or having staff rummage through your personal property looking for recording devices.
In Canada, a Montreal theatre owner was ordered to pay a woman $10,000 after an employee rifled through her handbag, said p2pnet, going on instead of a camcorder to be used for ‘pirating,’ the employee found only, ’smuggled snacks and birth control pills’.”
Now, things are escalating — in the UK, at least.
Jeremy Nicholas blogs he was refused access to a Cineworld theatre because he had a laptop in his bag, going on, “I was told it was a new policy to stop people recording the films. I pointed out that my laptop does not have the capability of recording a film. It does not have a camera on it for a start.”
“I have a few things to say to Cineworld,” he adds, among them »»»
1. If you treat your customers like this, they will go elsewhere.
2. There are many more efficient ways of recording a film than via the webcam on a laptop.
3. Many people carry a laptop or netbook these days. They will not all go straight home from work, some may come straight to the movies.
But, “The good news is after treating me like a a potential villain they let me in, and with my laptop,” he says.
Do you think the fact he’s a journalist and not an ordinary member of the public had anything to do with the change in attitude?
No need to stay tuned.

So seeing my cell phone can record video are they going to stop me from going into the theatre.
I’d be like “Im going to see this movie whether you take my money from me now, or refuse me entry and Im going to invite all my friends over to my house and download the exact same movie and watch it on my 50″ tv and surround sound sytem order some pizza crack some bears and enjoy the movie at my own house.”
At least if they see someone come in with a laptop or cell that records video (which most do, i think even the iphone does now, unless Im wrong) they can just make a walk throu the theatre and see if anyone is recording it.
But seriously if you get caught camming a video and you arnt from a scene group or do it for a living/hobby then why bother take the risk, stay at home and get a far better copy off the net.

Do people still watch movies at cinemas? I thought cinemas were only for young couple needing some dark place to share some loving.

“Ok, the pizza’s on the way. Did everyone remember their running shoes? Great! Everyone grab a bat and let’s go. I saw some grizzlies in the woods just a few miles from here.”

Whoa. Wait. Hold on. WHAT!?
That’s just stupid. (My opinion, I know you people think stuff like that SHOULD be banned.)
But, as many people have said before, some people have been refused to go into cinemas. Maybe some people bring in their laptop because they’re deaf, and they look for subtitles for the movie? (It’s possible, I just know.) And what if they go to relax at a movie, and then they’re boss calls, telling them they have a meeting? They’d need to bring a Cell phone. (Again, it’s possible.) Even if someone comes in with a cell phone, what if they simply WILL NOT record anything? No lies, just… no recording? They just came in to enjoy the movie, and are one of those NORMAL people who have the patience to wait until the movie is out on DvD? The employees just kick out people if they have recording devices on their Cell phones/ Laptops / Cameras.
Is this only at CinaWorld? If so, maybe some people can record movies at other theatres.
*Sorry if I’m wrong, I don’t know if it’s completely LEGAL or not.* Again, thanks for reading!

Oh, and BTW, Cody, you have a point. Now people won’t post movies on YouTube and http://www.watch-movies-links.net. NEVER GO ON THAT SITE!!!! There’s bad quality, and it can give you viruses. Also, sorry for spelling CineWorld wrong. D:
