EA workers sue EA
p2pnet.net News:- Already in the news over a Cherry Lane Music deal, Electronic Arts is being sued by employees, say reports.
“Leading publisher Electronic Arts may face a class action lawsuit from its own employees over unpaid overtime, it has emerged today, with a Californian law firm currently seeking certification for the class suit,” states GI, going on:
“Following on from the publication of a damning commentary on the company’s employment practices – which are also widespread elsewhere in the industry – by the wife of a staff member earlier this week, an internal EA memo was forwarded to the media last night.
“Although the authenticity of the memo has yet to be confirmed, the email – which was distributed in late summer to staff members – outlines the class action lawsuit, denies the claims of the suit, but informs employees that they are free to join the suit and will not be retaliated against if they choose to do so.”
Following a tip from an informed source, “GameSpot contacted attorney Robert C. Schubert, a partner at the San Francisco law firm Schubert & Reed,” says the site. “He said that he has initiated legal proceedings to start a class-action lawsuit on behalf of a group of EA employees. ‘We are seeking unpaid overtime for a good number of [EA] employees who weren’t [properly] paid,” Schubert told GameSpot this afternoon. “EA contends they were exempt,’ Schubert said. ‘We contend otherwise’.”
“My significant other works for Electronic Arts, and I’m what you might call a disgruntled spouse,” says an EA staff member’s wife in a blog, continuing:
“EA’s bright and shiny new corporate trademark is ‘Challenge Everything.’ Where this applies is not exactly clear. Churning out one licensed football game after another doesn’t sound like challenging much of anything to me; it sounds like a money farm. To any EA executive that happens to read this, I have a good challenge for you: how about safe and sane labor practices for the people on whose backs you walk for your millions?”

I boycotted EA years ago when they banned Thrill Kill’s release on the playstation. This type of news is nothing new.
