Final Lime Wire 4.2 beta today
p2pnet.net News:- The final beta of Lime Wire 4.2 with firewall-to-firewall transfer technology, network connections up to four times faster than before, complete iTunes integration on both Mac and PC, and more, should be coming out today.
“We started experimenting with firewall-to-firewall transfer seven months ago and were quite happy that it worked so well,” Lime Wire cto Greg Bildson told p2pnet.
“We’ve known this was a theoretical possibility for a long time, but seeing it actually work was very satisfying. Writing a low level protocol on top of UDP was fun but a lot of work. We look forward to getting it in to use.
“There are many other nice features in 4.2 that users should appreciate. This version looks very slick. We’ve also addressed the initial connection problems some users have been experiencing due to failing GWebcaches. Our addition of UDP capabilities to Gnutella is paying off on startup as well as firewall-to-firewall transfers.”
You’ll be able to check out the final beta here, and Lime Wire 4.2 will be available on November 17 here, with versions for both PRO customers and users of LimeWire BASIC (free).
Version 4.2 also includes:
- A brand-new mp3 player with better performance and OGG audio file support.
- A new file view, making it easier to share files directly with friends.
- And new icons, “improving the look and feel”.
