Share files over the web
p2pnet.net News:- What is Wirehog?
At its barest, it’s yet another file sharing technique for the entertainment industry to worry about.
Because Wirehog is ================>
- A social application that lets friends exchange files of any type with each other over the web.
- A utility for accessing data on your computer when you’re away from home.
- (For geeks) an HTTP file transfer system using dynamic DNS and NAT traversal to make your personal computer addressable, routable and easily accessible – the way it was meant to be!
What can you do with it?
- Share pictures and other media with friends
- Browse and save files through the web
- Roll around in the mud oinking and such
- Transfer files through firewalls and NATs
"Wirehog works with a standard web browser, but when you access a friend’s Wirehog you are actually connecting directly to their computer," says the site, going on:
"Wirehog also makes it easy to find your friends’ computers on the web. Just type ‘nick.wirehog.com’ (where ‘nick’ is your friend’s Wirehog nickname) into a web browser and you’ll be taken to their Wirehog.
"Wirehog is designed to simplify sharing media, such as pictures, videos and audio clips, but you can use it to share documents and other files with friends too. You can also share sensitive files because Wirehog lets you choose exactly which friends can view your files and even provides a ‘lockbox’ that can’t be accessed without a password."
Say no more.
OK - say more ; p
Wirehog was developed by college students Adam D’Angelo, Andrew McCollum and Mark Zuckerberg during this summer and fall, "with the help of a secret weapon (whose identity will be revealed later – stay tuned)".

I like the idea. Right now I use the program “HTTP File Server” for sharing specifically with friends. It is simple to use, free, open source, and quite good for what it does.

Only is really helpful for sharing my data with other less tech-savy users though (friends and family mainly). I like the idea of this new software though. Hopefully it will be so simple that even my grandmother could use it.
