That crap was put into VHS tapes for purchase, but the rental tapes I always copied (yeah, I had two vcrs) never had it. The dvd player I bought was modded - no macrosplat and I could use the remote it came with to switch regions or turn off region coding. That’s not ENTIRELY tue. Out of the same fear of ‘piracy’ industry VHS tapes started to come out with comething called Macrovision copy protection. This was meant to prevent playing a movie on one VCR and recording to a blank tape in another VCR. This protection, like all others, of course, failed, but continues to be a part of all industry VHS tapes.

It just sounds like one big heaping plate of suck to me.
