Cant say I believe their stats either, whilst many talk up firefox in their attempts to "get back at the man", IE6 has been doing sterling service for most ppl and I cant say I like firefox one bit nor do I like the "forced" method many websites use to go out of their way to harrass folks who dont chose the browser they think you should use while visiting their website, bullying is bullying and it would be nice to see this exposed rather than glossed over by anti-ms diehards, who it seems are so scared of an old browser they resort to sabotaging some areas of their sites, perhaps they are rather poor web designers too ?

IE is a massive piece of crap. Not only it is unsafe but it is at least 20 time slower than Firefox.

In addition IE is so unstable!

Finally I really wonder what Microsoft is doing these days. Their software are so so slow and so buggy.

Unbunktu linux is so much faster than even windows 2K. Open Office is so much faster and so much more stable than MS office.

Goodbye closed source, buggy, non-compliant browser with little user development. Good Riddance.

May versions 7 and 8 follow closely behind.

I believe you cannot update your version of IE to v.7 or 8, or Windows Media Player (WiMP) to v.10 or 11 without overcoming the "Windows Genuine Advantage" check. If this requirement has since been eliminated, all the better, but keeping users from upgrading was a bad idea, especially for what amounts to "free" software. Most Windows users would have long ago updated to the latest, bloatiest version of IE had it been an automatic update.

ars technica is full of it.
these figures have no cred, just like the riaa's numbers about losses due to downloaders and p2p.
like myself many people use 2 or more browsers, not really for security but for convenience and compatiblitly. I use one for banking and the other for surfing, other i know use one for email and facebooking and the other for surfing.

i personally like safari more than firefox 3.x. but find myself using IE 8 more than either of those.
as for the webpage loading stats i think your AV has more to do with the speed than the browser does, most systems today can handle any of the browsers resource needs with out any problems or speed decreases.

Not too fond of the Ars Technica pie chart - it doesn't really match what the article is suggesting, but rather only the readship of AT, whereas the article mentions the internet as a whole.
