Kazaa gets Skype
p2pnet.net News:- Kazaa, the p2p application used by thousands of unfortunate RIAA sue ‘em all victims, may be getting a new lease on life.
KaZaA was created by Nikolas Zennström and Janus Friis and quickly became famous as a way for people to share files online – so much so that it was scarfed up by Australia’s Sharman Networks and loaded with privacy and security threatening spyware and adware to become a mockery of what it once was.
It’s been sliding downhill ever since and no one with any knowledge of p2p or p2p applications would touch it with a barge-pole.
In the meanwhile, Zennström is one of the main men behind Skype, the free p2p online phone application and now, it seems, he’s gone full circle.
Kazaa v3.0 launched today. And it includes Skype.
Whether or not that’ll be enough to drag Kazaa out of the mire remains to be seen. But it’s doubtful.
“Despite narrow-minded attempts by others to stymie P2P technology through litigation, boycotts and legislation, Sharman Networks remains committed to delivering on the promise of peer-to-peer,” says Sharman’s Nikki Hemming.
Right.
Kazaa says the deal will allow users to make "unlimited free Internet phone calls," but they can do that already by simply going to the Skype site and installing the software.
Kazaa has been totally superfluous for some time and the deal with Skype doesn’t change a thing.

I think the people who run this web site are trying to promote their own pithy P2P program. Guys – get a life.

i think the guy (singular) who runs this site doesnt have time to make his own P2P program, but it is a fact that nearly all of the lawsuits have come from users on Kazaa and kazaa is full of adware and spyware.

Where else can kids download so many low-quality, fake and corrupted files – and get sued at the same time?
Kazaa serves as a lightening rod for the RIAA attacks, keeping the rest of the more astute p2pers relatively safe and out of harm’s way.

I wouldn’t know how to write a p2p app, although I’d love to be able to. heh
But Yep, for the longest time, Kazaa was where it was at for the cartel, although it’s now branching out and hitting people who use eDonkey, etc.
But Kazaa got the cartel members on their feet, so to speak.
Cheers!
