Microsoft ‘Xbox Live banning spree’
p2pnet news view | Games:- As many as 600,000 gamers may have been cut off from Xbox Live for modding their consoles.
Or as Spong puts it, “Xbox Live Gamer Culling Season Starts”.
“All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live,” say Steve and the Boyz in a statement, according to the BBC.
“The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them.”

A conversation with a friend who works for a call center that handles an Xbox 360 account has yielded a disturbing truth: Microsoft has started its annual Xbox Live banning spree and it has disabled 600,000 accounts so far in the US and Canada.
The target of the banning spree are mainly people who have modified their consoles to play pirated games. My trusty source says that they have been given instructions to push for a million banned accounts by the time the holidays are over.
“Our office has gone to hell,” says the source. “People have been calling in around the clock and most of them are screaming teen-agers who don’t understand the terms of use that comes with the console they bought.”
Stay tuned.

November 11th, 2009 at 10:56 am
Alternate headline, MS steals 600,000 users money in banning spree.
What I doubt they refunded the X-box live membership
November 11th, 2009 at 11:27 am
Break TOS = NO refund.
November 11th, 2009 at 11:40 am

Remember the good old days when a video game system was a self-contained unit that you bought games for, rather than a front end for the monthly subscription service?
November 11th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
“… that comes with the console they bought.â
That pretty much says it all. Who does it belong to?
November 11th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
The solution is pretty simple. Don’t buy an xbox.
November 11th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
so the people try before they buy, which microsoft looks at as stealing so microsoft then steal the consumers money by banning paid for accounts.
turns out were all just thieves, some of them just happen to wear suits and get paid alot of money anyways.

Figure out a way to run your own xbox server from your computer so you’re not dependent on Microsoft anymore. Better yet, get a high performance computer for video games and ditch the proprietary consoles altogether.

“It has ceased to be! It has expired and gone to meet its maker! It’s a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn’t modded the console it wouldn’t be pulling the ban hammer! It’s wearing a Halo or 3! THIS IS AN EX-BOX!”

What utter drivel. So you have been caught theiving and are now saying the punishment is harsh? If you like the games so much then why not pay for them? If you think that they are too expensive or rubbish – the answer is simple -don’t buy them. But if you steal them then fine – I think not only your xbox live account but your xbox should have been disabled by microsoft too.
How about in your daily life, what ever you do – people refuse to pay you? how would you feel? Can you walk into a shop and take something without paying for it because you think it is too expensive?
Microsoft and the games developers provide a service. They can’t run their services for free and so charge for them. That is life. That is called supply and demand. Live with it. It is only the profits from these services that enable them to invest in more R+D to provide even better services in the future. If no-one paid for anything we’d still be playing pong on the tele.
Get over it and get over yourselves – you bunch of useless, thieving cheats.

Microsoft is not banning users, or preventing subscribers from using their paid for subscription. They are banning modified consoles from connecting to their service. Users of modified consoles can still use their live account if they move it to another unmodified console.
What Microsoft have done is no different to any other company providing a service. They set out conditions of use, you either sign up to them or you find an alternative product. This is the same as Apple preventing non-Apple devices connecting to i-tunes. If you don’t like what they are offering then look elsewhere.

I herd from a pretty reliable source that the new dashboard update with facebook was actually some kind of virus that tells microsoft if you are using stock firmware or not. So if you have any kind of hacked firmware it will not be safe to play any games online real or pirated until they come out with a new hacked firmware wich should take like a month.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
The gamers that are pirating software should have there systems banned. I am sure that if a gamer will mod a box then they will also use lad switches and modded controllers which in turn is cheating. Microsoft get rid of the cheaters so the gamers that want to compete in a fair game can do so. It is pretty low of these gamers to have to cheat just to win a video game. Also if a modded controller is illegal on X Box why in the hell are they being sold on E Bay.
November 12th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
is ms the decider of what’s illegal?
this is major bullshit.
where i live, modding any device – phone, game console, pc, etc. – is absolutely legal. modding kits are sold in all major and several minor electronic shops and department stores.
also, many shops will do the modding for you.
i don’t have any game consoles or iphones or ipods, but if i did and i got blocked out of a game network that i pay entry to – is that how it works? – i would sue ms or nintendo or whoever is blocking me for doing what is legal where i live.

I dont care about being banned 30 games time $59.99 = 1,799.79 thats not even with tax and this is just the begining. I already have Assain Creed 2. Cool I saved a lot of money. So now I will just mod and sale copied game to by me a arcade version. It will take only a week to make the money. And think about this X-mas time can u imagine the money I will make. I will have my on BLack Friday sale. (Thank MS Bill Fakes) Try X KAI tunnel its free online gaming.

what rubbish you buy a product it should be yours why does ms still own it stuff xbox and maj go back to your antipiracy mates moron
November 12th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Bought a second hand console. \bought a subscription to x-box live. \bought forza 3 collectors edition. Bought COD 2. Got banned due to previous owners actions. So if I hit a person on the street and then sell you the car are you at fault now? Maybe Microsoft should give the option to fight the ban based on who used it. But I guess when you have billions you can afford to be an arrogant dick.
P.S
for sale one xbox elite. Owned for 3 months by me. $20. Going to get a PS3.
November 13th, 2009 at 7:54 am
With that many people banned from xbox live. I pretty sure that the hackers will be quick to respond with a work-around.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:11 am
I can’t fathom the stupidity at times.
If you buy a product – yes it’s yours and i agree you can do and mod the hell out of it if you want. That’s your right.
But from what i can see none of the people moaning here have bought the entine Xbox live setup. What you are doing is renting access to it. MS have put open guidelines on what they allow you to do on it BEFORE you pay, so why cry about it when after you’ve broken the rules the ban you.
I’m not a MS Fanboy or anything like that. I don’t even think i mind piracy at times, but the sheer, utter stupidity of people to say that after MS have found out about this they shouldn’t do anything. Are you crazy? have you been playing mario bros too long?. What would you do in that position?
You Muppet.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:11 am
By the way my xbox username is Haircutno1
Please add me
November 13th, 2009 at 9:13 am
what sux and is stupid is that i was banned and cant gain access to xbox live to download trailers and new game demos and just generally see whats being releases as you get to see through the marketplace in the xbox
ive played pirated games as well as buy genuine games
but i aint buying shit from MS any more
and im sure plenty of people feel the same as i do, so how does this earn MS any money?
i woudnt buy another console and leave it unmodded when i already have one that will play anything
rather spend that money on a ps3 get the same game titles and live services and a kick ass blueray player as well
good one Gatesy
November 13th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
PS3 for me well done Gatesy you’ve finally scrapped the xbox
November 13th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
I was just thinking the same thing. Get a PS3 for online play and use the 360 only for playing early pirated copies. Fuck Bill Gates in his stpuid ass.
November 16th, 2009 at 11:54 am
I AM BANNED FOR A LONG TIME I AM OUT HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
November 16th, 2009 at 11:57 am

November 16th, 2009 at 11:58 am
MAJ is my girl friend i love you maj
November 16th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Those that are going out and buying a PS3 are cutting off their noise to spite their face. To act as if Sony isn’t nearly as “evil” as Microsoft is laughable. These Sony Cats are the same folks that brought as those lovely rootkits.
Do a cost-benefit analysis real quickly. The PS3 hardware is around 300 dollars and is completely unmoddable. You are going to spend 65 dollars a game for the rest of your days.
Or get a 30-40 dollar RROD/E74/Drive Box and repair it. Use the banned xbox 360 for all your back-ups, bad media, unverified pirate rips. Then use the repaired box for retail or wait for ixtreme LT.
November 17th, 2009 at 12:44 am
Meh i still have a fully functioning banned box that will play all my single player games just nicely
New box and just buying multiplayer games still leaves me WELL up.
Btw to the paranoid fool who said “if you play pirate games you probably cheat and use lag switches too!”
Saving money when your pretty damn poor doesn’t equate to splashing cash on cheating in games. Hell who would make all the effort to get a game to cheat at it anyway? Or does logic not fit in with your delusional idiotic views?
November 19th, 2009 at 8:11 am
i hhate ps3 and is crap xbox is the best hahaahahhahaahhaahahahhahaahhahaahaz
November 19th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
I have owned a 360 now for over 3 years and have not bought one single game at present I have around 400.
Maybe somebody should find a way to create a new game server for playing online instead of xbox live.
To all those whinning saying piracy is stealing remeber that when you play a copy of any type or buy dodgy goods from your local druggy.
