NO! Torvalds, Widenius, Lerdorf

p2pnet.net News:- Linus Torvalds (Linux), Michael Widenius (MySQL) and Rasmus Lerdorf (PHP) are calling on the EU Council to think again about its controversial draft directive on software patents.

They’ve turned to the EU Competitiveness Council in a bid to prevent the Council from adopting at the end of this week the current draft of the so-called Software Patent Directive, says Heise Online.

In a joint declaration published at NoSoftwarePatents.com, “they call the controversial Directive on the Patentability of Computer-Implemented Inventions known as the Software Patent Directive “deceptive, dangerous and democratically illegitimate,” says Heise, going on that according to the three protesters, the draft directive is deceptive because it cold lead laymen,” and even those legal professionals who were not familiar with the intricacies of patent law,” to believe, incorrectly, that it would exclude software from being patented.
