I know exactly what you mean ... I was really looking forward to HalfLife2, after being a big fan of the original ... that was until I found out that they have activation on the new version.

Now for the real shocker ... they use this thing called steam ... which is basically like a "passport/activation" for your games ... now some people (yeah there's all the stories about "it wasn't me it was my mate" etc) tried a dodgy key realease (apparently from valve/steam themselves) then, anyone who used this had their steam account disabled!!!

So all of the games that they have purchased legitimately and were using this steam activation for them they have been wiped out!! What right do they have to, in my view, steal what people have legitimately paid for.

I will definetly NOT be giving this company any more of my money ever, and tbh I don't even think I'm gonna try HL2 as I don't want to be any part of that community, unless they kill this draconian measure!!

So my burned CD-R copy of WinXP hand-written with the serial number that starts FCKGW- will probably not get me a licensed copy when I turn it in?

Actually, I already have several "legal" copies of Windows that I never even use. I was never keen on the idea of product activation - having to phone in for company permission to re-activate the software after every time I swap hardware around.

No thanks. I ditched the legal copy and downloaded myself a corporate "Devil's Own" version that allows me the full freedom to do whatever I want to any of my computers. I hate software that comes with chains attached.

I also used to be a big Norton fan, but I have not bought any more copies of Systemworks since Norton started that stupid product activation.

I just wish I could boycott M$ too.
