p2pnet: Christmas came early

p2pnet news view P2P:- It was looking as though this coming Yuletide season might have been the last for p2pnet.

But Christmas has come early. :)

Cliff Haerden (right) , who runs MultiBox.be in Belgium and who’s also a p2pnet regular, is donating a server, with all the bells and whistles.

And that means p2pnet will keep on truckin’. :)

I’m still looking for $2K a month to supplement the ad income, but I may have a way to deal with that too.

‘Everybody makes mistakes … ‘

Highly appropriately Cliff, 28, started using computers to make music (Amiga 1000 with MIDI piano).

I say that because MIDI got me online too, but without the Amiga or piano.

“Around 1999 I started as an independant IT specialist specializing in Window$ products (everybody makes mistakes)”, says Cliff ;) .

But he persevered, getting clued in to the likes OS2/Warp, Suse Linux and the BeOS  system —- “not very popular or known in Belgium :)

“A bit later I started monitoring products for banking companies and MultiBox started to run, he says, going on »»»

Together with a school mate (Bart Colemont) we  started hosting services, routers, firewalling, etc, using a mix of Linux and NetBSD,and that’s why we are called Multi Box. Currently we host servers  and sites in Germany and Belgium within LCL datacenters and a private lease company.

We have a 92 Gigabit connection (bundle 5 providers) and use the famous Juniper backbone. We are pretty involved in opensource projects, creative commons and have helped some national politic groups to stand up  against the Belgian equivalent of the RIAA called SABAM and with success! I currently do lots of working on Linux and some Microsoft sharepoint (MOSS 2007) projects.

We plan to continue supporting multiple operating systems on our network. I’m a big Ubuntu fan for the desktop and passionate passive  computing fan (0 db noise). Other hobbies? Well I have a 3 year old son  called Linus and Japanese cars … I have some oldies and classics :)

We fully support initiatives like p2pnet where people can speak free … this is the base of the internet!

We’re expecting to move p2pnet across the pond on Friday.

And not at all incidentally, with Cliff’s help, I’ll also be firing up an open news and information communications project  I’ve been dreaming about since I started p2pnet in 2002.

More on that anon.

Definitely stay tuned. :)

Cheers!
