"Sacling back", what a joke! Mr Murdoch's revenues shrink, so media giants want to remove a competitor for which the consumers have already paid with their taxes. Reminds me of an attempt from a weather forecast company in the US which tried to outlaw free weather data from the administration (again, funded by taxes).

The answer should be a clear no but are politicians courageous enough when they would be risking a negative campaign from media moguls?

I sure hope "BBC 3", rumored for cuts, refers to a TV station and not BBC Radio 3, the classical and world music station, which is one of the cultural jewels of civilization.

6Music-- which I used to describe as Serious Rock Music -- has its moments, though when I have tuned it in lately its been way too much talk and not enough music. There should be a balance and usually the BBC, across its myriad channels, gets it pretty right.

Except - we are switching to Digital TV broadcating within the next few years. OTA digital broadcasts are already available to most people and will soon be mandatory. Perhaps the reason these channels only "reach" a relatively small audience is due to the quality of the programming?
