Australia nixes anti-porn plan
p2pnet.net News:- Australia has rejected a UK-style national internet filtering system to block porn.
Communications Minister Helen Coonan said a study found such a filter would cost around $45 million a year initially and $33 million a year in later years, states NEWS.com.au.
“She said it also had the potential to choke the internet and drive up costs for consumers and small business,” Coonan is quoted as saying adding:
“What does work is greater information and parental supervision and that is the kind of program that the government is promoting."

That’s about $2.50 per Aussie.

The problem with filtering is that:
1) it costs a lot to try and make it work
2) it doesn’t work
Therefore it’s not cost efficient at all.
People always find a way to get past the filtering.
At most you block everything and people switch services to something that works.
If you don’t want people searching for porn maybe you should try to convince them instead.
If you can’t maybe you’ve overlooked something in your rationale that porn = bad.
Work on that instead of forcing others and taking away their freedom.
