The music industry needs to move with the times. For a century they've attempted to stifle EVERY new technology musicians have tried to use to go forward, arguing that the new technology will "kill" the business. They said all this about cassette, DAT, Minidisc, CD and now mp3.

It makes me ill to think I spent all day at work today paying taxes that will eventually be FACTORed into the hands of crappy, whiny "artists" who are too lazy, untalented, and unimaginative to make it on their own. Jim Cuddy needs a huge slap in the head.

"so is anyone making sure the politicians know these things? Or are the politicians only here to suport the rights of big bussiness not their constituants."

Things started going horribly wrong when politicians realized they could choose to care more about bribes than votes. However, this practice is only possible because the average person is too ignorant and/or apathetic about the issues surrounding their rights to pressure their elected representatives in Ottawa.

I think it's important to note - when Big Music, the CRIA and CPCC start singing the tune of 'protect the artist' - that of the $30 million that the blank media levy is going to raise, a little over $4 million will go towards the operating expenses of the CPCC. Probably another million or two will be syphoned by SOCAN and crew for their operations. Then the final distributions are determined by surveys of radio play time and store sales ... as if the songs on the radio are the ones being pirated ...so that the artists who benefit from this are the established players.

There's a tangled web of organizations living off of organizations living off of the average Canadian, and they're getting away with their incessent leaching by cowering behind Canadian artists.
