I am really excited about this article and this research. I work for Raven's Wing Records, Montana folk musician Amy Martin's label, and we have based a major part of our marketing and business strategy on the principles outlined here. We are selling MP3 versions of all of Amy's recorded music at www.ravenswingrecords.com. I'm convinced this exciting new digital tool will aid us in introducing people all across the country to this fantastic, passionate, and talented musician. Thanks P2P for posting all the statistics and findings, I was definitely encouraged!

As someone who considers themself 'an artist' (of sorts), its stating the obvious to acknowledge the power of global connectivity, and the higher speeds its reaching. The ability to reach an unspeakably large audience, where getting yourself a gig or a gallery in (for instance) my home city is virtually impossible if you're not appealing to a mainstream audience.

For the ten or-so years i've been online, i've been exposed to a huge amount of creative content (primarily music) that has never seen a physical release, let alone been dignified by a response from major and minor record labels.

Now what we need to do is seek those people out, the entire Copyright law can be usurped. We just just need a fantasy utopia where people stop being told what they like -and believeing it - by bloated music videos and PR budgets.

Simple, right?
