Firefox users scorn adverts

p2pnet.net News:- Firefox users are four times less likely to click on ads than people using Microsoft’s dodgy Internet Explorer.

That’s the conclusion of German advertising technology company Adtech.

During October and November, only 0.11 percent of Firefox users ever clicked on an ad, compared with around 0.5 percent of IE users, says Adtech, quoted in CNET News, which goes on:

“The percentage of IE users clicking on ads varied depending on which version of the browser was being used, the company said: from 0.44 percent of version 6.x users to 0.53 percent of version 5.5 users. The survey was based on 1,000 Web sites in Europe that use Adtech’s ad server.”

It also has Mozilla contributor David Hallowell saying, "People click on (pop-up) ads because they think the system’s trying to tell them something," Hallowell said. "The average Firefox user is more aware that they’re ads, not system dialogs."

Not only but also, Firefox has been crafted to come across as a nimble – and independent – alternative to IE, with emphasis on the word ‘independent’.

In the online world ‘independent’ is, of course, synonymous with ‘free’ as in untrammeled.

Many, if not most, Firefox users are looking to surf the web, not buy ‘product’ or ‘services’ – or get themselves onto someone’s adverting spam list.

You mean those who allow the ads to load are less tempted to click them.

Mozilla also allows you to filter content to deny showing ads based on url.
And you can right click on an image to block images from the host server.

Sad that it doesn’t work too well with flash and shockwave.
Oh well, I don’t really need flash or shockwave ;-)

Try the Adblock plugin. Sorry, extension. It allows you to block flash as well, if you want to. And iframes…
