Hollywood nails Kaleidescape
p2pnet.net News:- It’s dog-eat-dog out there in tinsel-town.
The MPAA’s DVD Copy Control Association (DVDCCA), owner of the ineffective DVD ’copy-protection‘ technology, is after a firm called Kaleidescape because, claim the studios, Kaleidescape’s $27,000 jukebox illegally makes copies of DVDs.
"Kaleidescape creates expensive consumer electronics networks that upload the full contents of as many as 500 DVDs to a home server, and allow the owner to browse through the movies without later using the DVDs themselves," says CNET News.
That’s what the DCCA Content Scramble System (CSS) is supposed to stop.
Think Jon Lech Johanesen and Andrew Bunner.
In the meanwhile, "The express intent and purpose of the contract and CSS are to prevent copying of copyrighted materials such as DVD motion pictures," Bill Coats, a DVD CCA attorney, said in a statement," according to CNET, which goes on:
"While Kaleidescape obtained a license to use CSS, the company has built a system to do precisely what the license and CSS are designed to prevent – the wholesale copying of protected DVDs."
"We are flabbergasted by this lawsuit," CNET quotes Kaleidescape ceo Michael Malcolm as saying. "We have gone to great pains to make our system comply 100 percent with licenses and all the associated technical procedures and requirements."
CNET also says Kaleidescape will fight the suit and will probably counter-sue the DVDCCA.

What a great idea, a DVD jukebox! Now this is really great innovation! Oh, wait, did some just say innovation? Uh oh, better crush it to dust as soon as possible.
Seriously though, I hope they do fight back and win. I’m getting so sick of this kind of crap going on that I’m almost at the breaking point. Actually, I wonder how long it will be until we do start seeing unstable indivduals snap because of the unfairness and contempt we are constantly being bombarded with on all sides. I have a strong feeling that over the next few years things are going to get a great deal worse before these corporations wake up and realize how much damage they’ve been doing to everyone. However it’s going to take one heck of a big wake up call to do that, and I fear just how serious that may end up being when the time finally comes. Hopefully everyone will come to their senses before that happens, but knowing human nature, I fear for us all.

This troll post is the same as, or along the lines of, of similar rants found elsewhere and has therefore been deleted.
Freedom of speech is, however, vitally important and must be defended and you’ll find a number of intact examples from this person here – http://p2pnet.net/story/8896.
In the meanwhile, I don’t have the time or the desire to monitor every post but every time I see one like this, it goes in the trash bin.
