Israeli cops blast student’s laptop
p2pnet news view P2P | Politics:- Israel border police thought a US student’s laptop looked suspicious.
So they shot it.
“I was sitting on the deck overlooking the Red Sea. Israeli security officers (most who looked around 18 years old) had completed around two hours of questioning and searching me,” said Lily Sussman on her blog, going on:
“They had pressed every sock and scarf with a security device, ripped open soap and had me strip extra layers. They asked me tons of questions–where are you going? Who do you know? Do you have a boyfriend? Is he Arab, Egyptian, Palestinian? Why do you live in Egypt? Why not Israel? What do you know about the ‘conflict’ here? What do you think? They quized me on Judaism, which I know nothing about.”
Then —-
“—- they asked me to wait. Since they had asked for friends and families phone numbers I assumed they might be calling to verify my answers to questions or confirm I really had extended family in Tel Aviv. An announcement played over the sound system, interrupting my break in the sunshine. First in Hebrew, then Arabic, then in English. It was something along the lines of, ‘do not to be alarmed by gunshots because the Israeli security needs to blow up suspicious passanger luggage’.”
Lily adds >>>
Moments later a man came outside and introduced himself as the manager on duty. And then, “I’m sorry but we had to blow up your laptop. “
What….all my client case notes and testimony, writing, pictures, music and applications. Years of work. NO!!!! What?? Are you insane?? What were you thinking? THAT’S ALL MY WORK!?
After much yelling, crying and frantic phone dialing (don’t be alarmed if I called you repeatedly this morning), he took me outside to see the wreckage. It turned out it hadn’t been quite blown up, but rather shot through with three bullets. We were able to extract the hard drive, seemingly unscaved. Thank goodness…
Says the Jewish Telegraphic Agency:
“Responding to the story, the Israel Airports Authority said that ‘A check that the lady’s luggage underwent raised an indication that required security figures to act according to procedures. A police officer, who carried out the stated operation, was called to the scene’.”

Will they pay for it? After all it was an expensive Mac and it’s not Apple or the girl’s fault the police are clueless.
Clearly this demonstrates that police are in total control and are security experts and we have nothing to worry about.

So if it’s an explosive some moron Israeli security robocop will stand over it and shoot it not expecting anything to blow-up in his face?
Sounds like an army the US can finally beat. Just send them suspicions packages to shot so that it blows in their face.
This is good intel to know.

“So if it’s an explosive some moron Israeli security robocop will stand over it and shoot it… ”
Which is proof that they weren’t following any security protocol.
They just wanted her computer disabled.
This isn’t exclusive to the Middle East.
The US has their own ways of accomplishing the same crap.

Nah, they just shoot each other’s computers, in a hail of “friendly fire”!

um… i think that was completely overreactive and out of protocol. they could of just x-ray’d the thing to see if there were any unordinary substances on the inside without blowing it up. i say take em to court.
