Chinese search engine Baidu likely to face copyright lawsuit: report China View
Baidu, China’s biggest search engine, is set to face a lawsuit for allegedly pirating from the country’s leading online literature website, Shanda Literature Limited (SDL), China Daily reported on Saturday. Baidu is the latest leading search engine to be entangled in high-profile legal action after Google was sued by Chinese novelist Mian Mian for alleged copyright infringement this week. “Baidu’s connivance at net piracy leads to over 1 billion yuan of losses to our company every year,” claimed SDL CEO Hou Xiaoqiang. His company will sue Baidu in January, he said. It will ask Baidu to delete illegal download links and pay indemnity of more than 1 million yuan.

The search giant must pay 300,000 euros (£266,000) in damages and interest to French publisher La Martiniere. It was one of many to take Google to court for digitising its books without explicit permission. Google was also ordered to pay 10,000 euros a day until it removes extracts of the books from its database.

What makes the perfect female face? Toronto Star
The perfect proportions for a beautiful woman are 46 and 36. That’s it. A four-way study by university psychologists in Toronto and San Diego found precise distances between a woman’s eyes and between her eyes and mouth determined whether she was thought to be beautiful. The perfect distance between the eyes and mouth is 36 per cent of the depth of the face, the research published recently in the journal Vision Research said. And the perfect distance between the middle of the eyes should be 46 per cent of the width of the face.

Sony adds newspaper subscriptions to ebook reader Telegraph
Sony’s chief executive, Sir Howard Stringer, believes his company’s range of ebook readers could outperform Amazon’s Kindle Photo: Getty US users of Sony’s Reader range of ebook readers will soon be able to download the latest news from the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post to their device, Sony has confirmed. The Japanese electronics giant has signed an exclusive deal with News Corporation, owned by Rupert Murdoch, to give Reader users subscription-based access to publications through the ebook reader. A monthly subscription to the Wall Street Journal will cost users $14.99, while access to the New York Post is priced at $9.99 per month. Robert Thomson, editor-in-chief of the Wall Street Journal, said that they would be earning a more favourable slice of revenue than the 30 per cent cut typically offered by Amazon to content providers.

Charities Criticize Online Fund-Raising Contest by Chase New York Times
JPMorgan Chase & Company is coming under fire for the way it conducted an online contest to award millions of dollars to 100 charities. At least three nonprofit groups — Students for Sensible Drug Policy, the Marijuana Policy Project and an anti-abortion group, Justice for All— say they believe that Chase disqualified them over concerns about associating its name with their missions. The groups say that until Chase made changes to the contest, they appeared to be among the top 100 vote-getters.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

The trial of the pirate bay created a precedent. IF the pirate bay who is nothing more than a search engine can be sued and sentenced for copyright infringement just for linking to on line files then any search engine can be sued as well.

Now the entire internet might collapse. Time to switch to WIFI P2P networks who can easily replace internet without ISP!

Sorry ISPs! You will have to blame the entertainment corporations of parasites and the governments who let themselves being corrupted by these piece of shit for the resulting mess!
