Apple’n'Pepsi – a done deal.
Now Coke is getting in on the online music game and it’s yet another major company to use Peter Gabriel’s OD2.
Between February and March, 2004, Apple and Pepsi-Cola are giving away 100 million free songs to Mac and Windows users from the iTunes Music Store – if said users find a winning code under the randomly seeeded caps in 20 ounce and 1 liter bottles of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Sierra Mist.
However, you won’t need a bottle top for Coke tunes.
"Coca-Cola is launching an Internet music download service in Britain next month, the first consumer brand to jump into Europe’s crowded Internet music market," says a Reuters story here.
"The soft drinks giant said that in January it will begin selling music downloads from a catalog of 250,000 songs supplied from each of the five major music labels."
The report adds, "Coca-Cola’s marketing approach has less to do with selling drinks directly than to associate itself with an attractive lifestyle, particularly to young, tech-savvy consumers."
