Sony BMG, EMI, team up
p2pnet.net News:- EMI’s catalogue and library arm and Sony BMG hope their just-signed pact covering new physical formats will help them get a grip on ‘piracy’ problems.
Between them, the giant corporations control more than a third of the world music sales. Their alliance covers mobile ring tones, digital video distribution and downloads.
“Executives at the companies said the deal would cover products including DualDisc, the new two-sided disc incorporating a CD and DVD, which the industry hopes will stimulate additional sales after four years of decline,” says The Financial Times.
It goes on to quote Marty Bandier, chairman and chief executive of EMI Music Publishing, as saying: "An agreement that facilitates more consumer friendly and piracy-deterrent formats is a big step for our industry and a huge win for artists and music fans."
The report doesn’t say will the deal mean to indie groups which are already trying to overturn regulatory approval for the Sony BMG 50/50 partnership.
European performing artists, independent music companies and entertainment retailers say they’ll resort to legal action against the "fundamentally flawed" Sony BMG merger unless the European Commission steps in.

At Raven’s Wing Records, Montana folk musician Amy Martin’s independent label, we want you to share Amy’s song-files. We would love it if you downloaded her free songs, burned CDs for all your friends, or just put her MP3 files into P2P circulation. That’s because Amy and the Raven’s Wing Records team value listeners who want to hear her music. How can people telling their friends about an artist’s music hurt the artist?
Amy is also selling all her music in MP3 form – this way she can bypass all the corporate bigwigs like the folks at Sony, BMG, and EMI, and no one gets to tell her that she can’t share her very own song files.
Check out her site and join the indie revolution!
