Hollywood nails SuprNova
p2pnet.net News:- SuprNova.org described itself as the Universal BitTorrent source. It was the largest online BT community providing links to hundreds of thousands of music, movies and games, and other files.
But, thanks to the ministrations of the multi-billion dollar entertainment industry, it is no more.
With the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) as their front, the Big Seven movie studios are working hard to eliminate online file sharing claiming, disingenuously, that it’s ruining their businesses.
SuprNova was on their hit list and now, “Greetings everybody,” says a farewell post.
“As you have probably noticed, we have often had downtimes. This was because it was so hard to keep this site up! But now we are sorry to inform you all, that SuprNova is closing down for good in the way that we all know it.
“We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links.
“We are very sorry for this, but there was no other way, we have tried everything.
“Thank you all that helped us, by donating mirrors or something else, by uploading and seeding files, by helping people out on IRC and on forum, by spreading the word about SuprNova.org.
“It is a sad day for all of us!
“Please visit SuprNova.org every once in a while to get the latest news on what is happening and if there is anything new to report on.
“As we wish to maintain the nice comunity that we created, we are keppig forums and irc servers
“Thank you all and Goodbye!
“loncek & the rest of the SuprNova Team”
(Thanks, TT)

We’ve been emailed a cease & desist letter from them, with a “sample” of infringing links. We are in the process of working this out with them, as per our copyright policy.
from their homepage….

Well, because my pc has been infiltrated enough times just in the ordinary course of online research (firewalls and anti-spam notwithstanding) to deter me from bothering with p2p sharing, I decided long ago that the MPA/RIAA tactics turned me off to such a degree that I will buy as few products from them as possible. That means I’ll never buy a ticket to a movie again, or pay for one on cable, and I haven’t bought new music in years. That’s not likely to have much of an impact overall, but if no new movies were ever made as a result, who would miss them, anyway?

we all know that it is Hollywoods fault. If they wern’t griping about their money, then Suprnova would still be here

Number 1) Hollywood and Music studios are not getting hurt by P2P, and a recent study actually showed that they are earning more money thanks to P2P.
Number 2) So why is there such a huge problem with P2P? The suits want to get as much money from roalties and line their pockets with “ligitimate” P2P networks, in other words, ones that pay royalties to them.
I refuse to ever buy a CD or pay to watch a movie ever again since I have been burned way too many times. I hate hearing a good song on the radio, buying the CD, and find that the remaing 12-14 songs are absolute crap! I also get really put-off when I see a commercial for what looks like a good movie, and then see something sub-par that cost me $10 or more, depending on what food or drink I get, if any. On top of all of that, CD’s should not cost $15 or more. The actual blank medium itself is pennies on the dollar to buy in the store, and studios buy in bulk, so you know they get a discount. I do not trust the MPAA or the RIAA when they say what their cost is. Everyone knows it is a really poor business practice to pay for a product before it is tested and reviewed. Maybe the studios should reconsider the way they do business and give the artists/actors money only after the finished product hits the streets, and pay them only a percentage of the profits, that way they get only what they are truely deserved, and not the millions that they demand up front. Gee, last time I checked, I would test drive a vehicle and read consumer reports and various reviews before I bought it…

this is so funny. they blame suprnova for the bit torrents. omg. they never gonna stop file sharing. some one else will come along and create another site. all it was for was links to files. they never had files on the actual server. its like the napster vs metallica case.
it wasnt napsters fault people decided to use it to share popular music. they chose to do so therefore napster should have won the case. same goes for supernova

I agree … I’m with ya there … cmon .. lets get this ball rolling … boycott them and spread the word. Support bands who are trying to make it on theor own without those cartels.

I’m totally with you on this. Thanks to Hollywood my favorite site on the net has been destroyed, so I will never again pay for a movie. Ever. Spread the teachings, people!

it does seem like hollywood is bitching a lot lately. that makes me even more mad knowing that a multibillion dollar industry (plural?) is complaining about our little slice of heaven. that and the main front is in my own country. i really wish we spent our money on better things, and stopped worring about these small things like filesharing. i just recently went and saw a movie, and paid way too much. made me feel like coming home and downloading the movie since i already paid so much for it. sheesh… i hope other sites sites start to grow now. there are alternative sites to suprnova, but it seems like they have less seeders.

“Hollywood didnt do anything suprnova shut down as a preemtive measure anyway if you are looking for tv eps go to http://www.tv-swarm.com”
Look again for the news stories. The MPAA nazis have launched wide scale attacks against many of the bit sites this past week on a worldwide scale.
It is a sad day.

Damnit, it is truly a sad day! It’s just not right. Suprnova.org and other closed torrent sites made little difference to hollywood’s profit by damnit it made a big difference to us. We can only hope that somewhere on the net suprnova is rebuilding in secret (for now).

‘Hollywood’ is full of fucking imbecils. No matter what they do, we will always get files over the internet. No matter how many sites they strong-arm into shutting down, we will always download free movies, games, what have you. Screw hollywood, and anyone who is against filesharing. ROCK AND ROLL!
December 26th, 2004 at 3:08 am
I say we must take to the streets!! We need to start protesting. someone needs to make an anti-MPAA site to plan marches and the like against them. if there is such a site please post it.
February 14th, 2005 at 10:17 am
Very good idea…stop spending money which goes to hollywood and start protesting!!!
