Britain, Ice Age 2010: amazing pic

p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- The incredible pic on the right shows Iceland — Iceland UK, as seen from Nasa’s Terra satellite yesterday.

It “shows the UK deep in the clutches of the current cold snap,” says the BBC page on which it appears.

Some ’snap’ ;)

“Britain remained in the grip of the coldest winter for more than 30 years today, with conditions set to feel even more icy in the coming days,” says Wales Online.

“Temperatures were already on a par with the South Pole after the country suffered its coldest night of the winter so far.

“There will be little respite, with more snow in eastern England today and temperatures likely to be pegged at or below freezing in all areas.”

Thousands of schools remain shut and travel problems continue, while power cuts are affecting thousands of homes, says the BBC, adding:

“UK-wide severe weather warnings of ice are in place amid freezing temperatures and ‘nightmare’ side road conditions.

“The mercury fell to -18C overnight in places and temperatures were typically between -8C and 0C at lunchtime.”

Arctic conditions are expected to continue for up to a week, it says.

Incredible picture. And I can tell you that it’s absolutely freezing here! By far the worst snow I’ve ever seen in my lifetime – I’m 24. EVERY school for miles is shut, people have been panic-buying so all the stores have sold out of milk, bread etc… There are no buses or trains running, some roads are closed, people can’t get to work, it’s surreal. I’ve never seen anything like it.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

I wonder how long before the enviromentalists start crying “We headed for a global iceage!!’ again?

  3. superchicken Says:

Brits used to be able to tough it out when things got a little tough. All I’ve heard the last week is whining and whining over a little cold snap.
Churchill would be appalled at what has happened to the country.

  4. Tom Koltai Says:

Actually, earth is in a global ice age (glacial periods) that appear to thaw (interglacial periods) for about 14,000 -28,000 years or so. We’re about due for the end of the current thaw…..

    @RhYnoECfnW

    Lemme guess… You’re a southerner right? ;)

  6. Rabbit80 Says:

I forgot to say – we had temperatures down to -14C where I live (Yorkshire / North East) the other night. Some areas in Scotland hit -22C overnight!

  7. Devil's Advocate Says:

“Some areas in Scotland hit -22C overnight!”

    @Rabbit80:

Temperatures like that are quite common for winters in Toronto.
At least you can say, the Gulfstream will eventually wake up, and you’ll be rid of it.
    :)

Don’t get the global warming alarmists started.
    Facts frighten them Tom.

  9. Lacrimae Says:

It’s treacherous in east yorkshire let me tell you. I’ve slipped over endless times during the past week. Although I do enjoy the snowball fights and sledging :)

  10. Lacrimae Says:

No doubt the climate change propaganda dissemination will claim this is just a blip like the 1999 el-nino, and then proceed to smooth their hockey-stick graphs lol. Seriously, life florishes in warmer temperatures, but cold is the real killer; no crops, impeded transportation, and gas supplies running out would kill hundreds of thousands of people. These climatologists need a reality check; an ice age (mini or otherwise) will be far more devastating. The whole push for lower carbon emmisions has turned into a polical agenda to force the people into poverty with additional tax burdens , and thus into serfdom. All the while halting the development of up-and-coming developing world countries, for they are the biggest threat to western economies.

Personally, and this IS just my opinion, one which is certain to be mocked .. but it wouldn’t be the first time …

Instead of throwing so much money into stopping what cannot be stopped, put it towards figuring out a way to
live through it WITHOUT losing everything that we have learned, passing it on to the next cycle.

    Silly idea.

  12. Anthony Says:

It is a small wonder when people can differentiate between global and local. What is funny is that people seem to be arguing to Global Freezing is better that Global Warming :)
