Who got hurt ??
December 28th, 2004 at 4:04 pm
The independent artists who deliberately authorize their music to be shared on P2P systems, that is who gets hurt by unauthorized P2P distribution of music. They are competing for space in a medium they support with currently popular dinosaurs who want to kill the medium.
I believe we should all stop “sharing” the works of the dinosaurs and start to support evolution by supporting those musicians that recognize the benefits of P2P. By redistributing unauthorized by the musician you are not “sticking it to the man”, but supporting them in their efforts to change laws in order to harm modern musicians, modern business models, and the Internet itself.

“The independent artists who deliberately authorize their music to be shared on P2P systems”
Thats a bit of a contradictory statement ….
The independents that AUTHORIZE their works to be shared.
They are only harmed if the “Majors” successfully bully consumers,
and purchase laws that eliminate P2P. As things stand now, the
ONLY way true independents get heard is through P2P.
“I believe we should all stop “sharing” the works of the dinosaurs and start to support evolution by supporting those musicians that recognize the benefits of P2P”
I couldn’t agree more.
The RIAA does not want their stuff shared, Then don’t share it
Very simple.
The purpose of my post was to point out that P2P BENEFITS them
as a marketing tool, and does NOT harm their sales one bit.
By noting that the Top 3 DL’s are also top sellers is a solid indicator
that RIAA is full of … well, you know.
As far as “Sticking it to the man”.
Yes we are in fact doing that.
As a musician yourself, you know as well as I do that the artists
signed to the majors don’t get crap for their efforts. The “Copyright Holders” are, in fact, the LABEL not the artists.
The “Man” as it were.
This is something that the Majors also fail to mention, deliberately.
They have been willing to “stick it” to Grandmothers and children.
About time they get a “stickin”.
