Barb may lose Grammy nomination
By Bill Evans - IMIRA
Barbara Streisand’s CD ‘Movie Album,’ which has been receiving critical acclaim and rave reviews, was officially released on October 14th.
The cut off date for Grammy entries was September 30.
So how did Barbara’s label Sony get the nomination in two weeks after the deadline?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Barbara’s own website stated the album would be released on October 14th. In addition, it mentions an appearance on Oprah on October 14th - the same day the album is released.
According to Matt Drudge, a SONY rep reached late Sunday acknowledged the CD was released a full two weeks after the qualifying date, but defended the Streisand nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal, adding "we’re not the only ones out there nominated" who hit the stores after September 30.
The Recording Academy has had tough times in recent history and had hoped to improve it’s image after Michael Green had left.
No doubt Ms Striesand will find some way to blame George W. Bush for this too.
