Sony PSP: Video Games to Go
p2pnet.net News:- Fairwell iPod, Hello PlayStation Portable.
That could be what’ll happen next year if Sony’s PSP muscles out Apple’s iPod as the Gotta Have One device.
Why’s that?
Because the PSP is not only an extremely tasty, portable video game player weighing in at a mere 10 ounces, it’s also a multimedia system for music and movies, it’s Wi-Fi compliant AND it has a USB 2.0 port, meaning it’ll hook into your computer, too.
Or as Sony phrases it, “The world of gaming is further enhanced by enabling users to enjoy online gaming, or by connecting multiple PSPs to each other, directly via the wireless network. In addition, software and data can be downloaded through a USB or wireless network onto [the separate] Memory Stick PRO Duo.”
If there’s a Not so Hot aspect, it’s that the player is locked solidly into Sony’s 60mm, 1.8 gig UMD (Universal Media Disc).
“If you want to play video that doesn’t come on a UMD disc, Sony recommends you buy special $10 computer software that will convert it to the MPEG-4 video format that the PSP and Memory Stick support,” says Associated Press business writer Yuri Kageyama, going on:
“PSP games range in price from $24 to $46, but there aren’t many yet. Sony says some 100 games are in the works, with about 20 titles promised soon.”
P2P will be coming in at around $200 sometime in 2005.
