Old computer crashed airline
p2pnet.net News:- Christmas Day air travel for 30,000 people in 118 US cities became impossible when an old computer system gave up the ghost.
Comair’s entire fleet was grounded when an, “antiquated system due to be replaced in the coming months” failed, says the Cincinnati Post, going on:
“Nick Miller, a spokesman for the Delta subsidiary based at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Regional Airport, said the cancellations affected 30,000 travelers in 118 cities.
"There was a cumulative effect with the canceled flights and trying to get crew assigned that caused the system to be overwhelmed," he’s quoted as saying.
"It just stopped operating."
US Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta has ordered an investigation into travel disruptions that impacted Comair and US Airways, says the Post.
