Is SuprNova eXeem for real?

p2pnet.net News:- SuprNova’s Sloncek used his promised NovaStream broadcast, yesterday, to make a "major announcement".

As expected, the creator of the now deceased SuprNova.org launched eXeem, "a P2P program that SuprNova and somebody else is creating," but you’ll have to be patient for a while.

The public beta release will be "very soon, but not this week or next week, but very soon after that", Sloncek said.

"eXeem is basically a File-Sharing program. It’s like Kazaa and BitTorrent altogether", he explained. The software uses a modified BitTorrent protocol, "so it’s not really BitTorrent".

In fact, "the program will have the same specifications as BitTorrent, but with its own network and its own files".

Instead of being hosted on a central server as they were on SuprNova.org, torrents will now be on a decentralized network and distributed among users, which should protect eXeem from being shut down as traditional torrents websites have been recently.

However "it’s different from Kazaa because you cannot share all your hard-drive,” Sloncek says. “You have to upload file packages to the network", then these files will appear as available to other users – a function called "publish torrent".

eXeem users will be able to rate torrents by saying they’re "OK" or "NOT OK", as well as by writing comments for distribution to other users; a system already featured in eMule.

But eXeem isn’t as bright as we might have thought.

The Slovenian rebel announced that eXeem will be ad-supported, because, you know, "development of the program costs a lot".

The project started months ago after, "a company contacted (Sloncek) by email and offered (him) to help them releasing the program".

Sloncek has now been hired to represent this company that will, "stay anonymous for a while".

Hopes that the program would be released under a GPL license have been dashed as it becomes clear that eXeem will be merely another commercial project.

Some ads will be optional, but this also raises the question of whether or not spyware will be a feature.

Sloncek compared eXeem to Kazaa. How accurate is the comparison? The question is yet to be answered.

For now, the new software is available at SuprNova.org, and on the new eXeem.com site where you’ll see:

“The Suprnova Team would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year ! Also, everybody is still welcome to join us on irc (irc://irc.suprnova.org/suprnova.org) or on forums (www.suprnovaforums.net), but please remember, we are no longer offering torrents. You will not find any on IRC or on our forums.”

    I LOVE it !!

I sincerely hope it gets through beta and released to public.

Evolution through hardship. Gawd the Industry is stupid.

Im going to have to agree with you. The MPAA and RIAA has been playing their games long enough, its time we finally have some place we can call home for torrents. I was sick of sites shutting down every week, worked long and hard to make torrents and come next day the sites are gone or made legal, (filesoup, hawkies world to name a few) Im looking forward to this program, modified bittorrent protocol with kazaa-type functionality, absolute brilliance. If you thought the studios had a problem before, they havent seen anything yet. They can go after us and dmca us all they want, but they’ll never stop it, not after exeem hits the net.

I tried out a beta a week ago, couldnt do much searching or anything but its definetely user-friendly. I can understand the need for advertisement, this is one of those programs i would still enjoy even if it has optional spyware. Heck, edonkey and overnet have a banner and i still used it.

theres a beta version at :
    http://82.149.22.18/eXeem%20BETA%200.16.zip

but a serial key is needed to connect to the network

  5. Reader's Write Says:

If it has ads in it I don’t trust it, ads can very easily provide a ready made malware transport, even just images! Given it is closed source I will have no way to verify that it is secure.

IMHO there is NO excuse for closed source software now, especially for security systems, it have been proven too many times before that most closed source systems are less secure than OSS.

Stupid, stupid boneheads, they’ll get sued, get reverse engineered or cracked (outside the US, so no DMCA) and a more secure OSS version will appear!

  6. Reader's Write Says:

I shall await the hacked version or the Azureus serverless network already in development.

  7. Reader's Write Says:

I personally shall wait for eXeem Lite.

    =)

  8. Reader's Write Says:

this is gunna b gr8 but has any1 got a serial key that works for the BETA?

  9. Reader's Write Says:

The Slovenian rebel? Sloncek is American!

  10. Reader's Write Says:

if you want no add and no banner and all the things you need… visit http://www.winmx.com for a p2p that offers all you need and with decent accuracy…
i suggest you preview the movies during download. sometimes fake files…
    regards,

  11. Reader's Write Says:

    They are indeed real!

Swarm systems inc. are the ’secret’ company also backing this project.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

http://www.digital-update.com and others are still the sources for torrents of all descriptions, users should be aware of the spyware exeem brings with it…

As well as killing the community by meaning torrents no longer need to be uploaded, privacy is gone a group cannot share a torrent amongst themselves as if 1 user is downloading with exeem that torrent becomes available to the masses..
