Big Music vs OiNK: Round II

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music failed to nail OiNK Op David Ellis (right) under criminal charges.

So they’re thinking about going after him again, this time in the civil courts.

The fight isn’t over and Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music “will find other ways”, the Telegraph has IFPI boss John Kennedy stating.

The Big 4 enforcerment outfit it “seriously considering launching civil proceedings,” says the story.

Last week, “Ellis, 26, had around $300,000 in his Paypal account when UK police staged a dramatic raid on his house in 2007″, said p2pnet, adding:

“He was running a music site with some 200,000 site members. So the money must have belonged to the labels. Right? Goes without saying.

“It was ‘invite-only, with users having to pay a donation in order to be able to ask their friends to join,’ says the Guardian.

“ ‘This is a hugely disappointing verdict,’ it has Geoff Taylor, mouthperson for Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music’s,  BPI (British Phornographic Industry), saying.”

    Such a bloodhound. :-/

  2. Reader's Write Says:

With such publicity as they have done with sue’em all, is it any wonder that people are more and more turned off with dealing with the music labels?

The last decade has been nothing but plastering news about how they can be such a bastard about dealing with music.

The last decade has also been marked by a plummeting of lower and lower quality on the music front.

Just when you think they can’t get lower, they strive for new levels.

  3. catflap Says:

the quality might be getting lower, but the sales keep breaking records – even according to the labels’ own statistics.

real musicians have stated time and again that the labels are not interested in quality, or even in making music. they’re just interested in making money.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

If the big labels sue him, he’d probably be forced to put the site back up to raise legal funds. :P

  5. Reader's Write Says:

    John Kennedy is dead.

  6. EcoTort Theatre Says:

most of the genuine artists end up in the gutter after being ripped of by the big boys and girls, who then squeal like pigs when their STOLEN work is distributed FREE

    LONG LIVE ROBIN HOOD !

GO TO JAIL YOU ROBBING BASTARDS AT EMI etc

  7. EcoTort Theatre Says:

oops, sorry for attacking EMI in that thoughtless way, a mere slip of the mouse

  8. Banana Blow-job Says:

“Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music will find other ways” John Kennedy (IFPI)

Ten years have gone by and they still haven’t learned a thing, have they? It is precisely this kind of vindictive, petulant, petty-minded, mean-spirited attitude that will make the “pirate” population (their ex-customers) even more determined to “find other ways” to ream their butts. Military grade encrypted, trickle down, darknets anyone?

“This is a hugely disappointing verdict” Geoff Taylor (BPI)

I know what you mean Geoff. I’m hugely disappointed that I never got the chance to become an active member of Oink before you manipulative, soulless, avaricious scum forked over enough back-handers to get it shut down.

Anyway I can’t waste my bandwidth messing about in here all day. I’m off to grab a copy of the latest “Florence And The Machine”. As for the major labels and all the corporate shills who work for the “alphabet companies”. You can suck my hairy banana. Sit and spin losers.

  9. tom.higgy Says:

    Wasn’t it Alan Ellis?

Hope the courts see sense. No doubt the MAFIAA will continue to go after him until they get the verdict they want then proclaim it as a victory for the creative industry as a whole…

    Anyway, good luck Mr. Ellis!

  10. Reader's Write Says:

Yes, his name is Alan, not David.

  11. kcb19892000 Says:

This just shows how horrible these corporate pigs are. I mean, the guy just got acquitted and now they want to put him through another traumatic trial? Ugh…these guys make me sick to my stomach.

  12. Paul Warren Says:

Time for John Kennedy and IFPI to explain how they got the information that was given to the Cleveland Police. I thought that carrying out electronic surveillance in private premises was illegal. Has this been done to Alan Ellis…?
What are they holding about Alan in their databases…? Why don’t you ask for some disclosure Alan as they have made your life miserable for nearly three years.

  13. Mumith Ali Says:

hey paul, if i get in the shit I will blame you.
