Musicians tune in to p2pnet’s survival :)
p2pnet news view | P2P | Music:- p2pnet is in survival mode. Again. This seems to happen at the end of one year and the beginning of next on an annual basis.
It’d be nice to find a way to come up with the necessary without having to ask for it. So with this in mind, I’m trying a different survival method — downloads.
I kicked off with some of my own stuff, a few tunes. And a short story for kids.
Now, here’s a lot of help from my friends.
Ladies first, so Maggie Council, from way back, says to add her Bingo Bus and Only Ones, with more to follow.
Same for Dennis O’Toole, another mate who wants to help the cause. His Love will Bring You To your Knees is up for starters, also more to come.
Strange Ways Music label founder Neil Leyton has donated Bullet and We Won’t be Silenced through Fear.
From Cold Joon comes Hills and Valleys.
And last, but by no mean least, emails The Copyright Anarchists’ William Glahn [from the a2f2a.com], “For the rockers on the list, feel free to offer Freedom Pirates for donations,” he says, going on, “1,000 CD singles given away at the only SXSW music industry convention that Hilary Rosen attended (about 7 or 8 years ago) including one to Ms Rosen.”
Ms Rosen is, of course, Hilary ‘Reach Out’ Rosen, the gone and not lamented ex-boss of the RIAA.
Thanks. It means a lot to me because I have to tell you, I’ve been feeling pretty low, these past few days.

With all due respect Jon P2Pnet is past its prime. You may have been a forerunner of a sort but there are now many other web pages carrying the kinds of reports you have specialized in, and doing a better job. They are more efficient, have better resources and are more credible.
P2PNet has had its day and since you obviously are no longer able to maintain it financially or in terms of content, stop these on-and-off posts and let it die quietly.

Not a troll? My butt!
Jon don’t believe a world of this! He is a troll from the entertainment industry.
Of course they would love you out. Deu!

With all due respect, Not a troll … you’re a jerk. If you don’t like the content, WTF are you doing here, looking at the pictures?
Great job, Jon !!!

Until such time as the RIAA, MPAA, CRIA, blah blah blah stop persecuting/prosecuting their customers, this blog will continue to remain contemporary. Sound Exchange is another greedy company that shows little or no signs of changing its ways, and we need to keep this in the news until such time as that happens (if it ever does).
Best regards, Jon.

Jon, just in case, what sites other would you recommend?
Thanks

” You may have been a forerunner of a sort but there are now many other web pages carrying the kinds of reports you have specialized in, and doing a better job. ”
Name them, and link to them … i’ll wait.

@ RW: “Jon, just in case, what sites other would you recommend?”
Well, there’s, um. Hm …
But seriously, there aren’t many hard-core advocacy sites around. They seem to be narrowly focused rather than wide ranging. So I guess people who come here specifically would find it difficult to find posts — biased, admittedly — on what the cartels and biggies are up to, how children are constantly being mind-raped, posts highlighting the kind of press-release bullshit which passes for ‘news’ in the lamescream press corpse, off-topic weirdery. And so on …
If I had a staff of two, p2pnet would be major and I’ve always aspired to covering a lot more than I do. But …
Stay tuned, though. I’m a recovering addict – http://www.p2pnet.net/story/18112 – and if surviving that has taught me anything it’s Never Give Up.
Cheers!

Its not a matter of who is better at what and does what. Each is unique on its own, just like this one.

Lets see:
TechDirt Great articles, but certainly not a one-man show
BoingBoing: Good
Torrent freak: its ok, they have good ones.
TechCrunch is kind of boring these days.
Sylck, eh, Jon’s daily round- ups are similar to this entire site.
Zero paid, Slow but hits a good one once in a blue moon.
Geist, Power house of current affairs going on
So I would rate p2pnet up there with BoingBoing and techDirt, but again, each are unique in their own way and compliment each other.

Personally I think Jon should have a limited closed-out forum where some regulars can pop out, collaborate some ideas for stories. Been thinking of this for ages.
It would bolster some of his stories and ease follow-ups. Instead of being a one man show.
I think I mentioned this to him already, or hinted at it.
I/we would partake.

@ Marc:
A kind of editorial group. Marc? Good idea, certainly. But several times in the past I’ve asked for volunteers to be contributing editors. People came forward and promised faithfully to get into it. But not one person followed through.
Cheers!

Wheres the trusty “donate” button? At the very least, it can’t hurt to have one that is always visible…

@ Rabbit80:
The p2pnet downloads ad on the right is meant to replace it. Instead of just asking for help, it offers music downloads and a short story I wrote for kids.
Cheers!

@Jon
I see it now..
The trouble is that I (and probably most others) have learned to not see most of the advertising that we are presented with on the internet. The downloads didn’t grab my attention at all – and without actually clicking on it I had no way of knowing that I could donate from that page.
Why not run a small banner accross the page under your search boxes. It only needs to be a one liner.. At least it would be visible (current box is not on the screen when I load a page, making it even less likely that I will see it – once I scroll down the page I am absorbed in the article!) and you could describe what kind of downloads you are offering!
January 21st, 2010 at 2:22 pm
@ Rabbit80: I’m already doing that, sort of. A text banner in bold red — p2pnet music downloads – and stuff — has been at the bottom of each page for a few days now. I guess no one notices that either
Cheers!

@Jon
Maybe I ought to get my eyes tested..
Maybe its just the layout of p2pnet – there are certain areas of the page that I somehow manage not to see!
January 21st, 2010 at 7:37 pm
I just noticed – on my laptop, the ads to the right are completely off screen due to the resolution… though I read this site often enough on other screens, so I can’t use that as an excuse!
