Philips CD/DVD/Blu-ray recorder

p2pnet.net News:- Philips has developed the prototype of an all-in-one PC writer that reads and writes CD, DVD and Blu-ray Discs, says DVD-Recordable.

The drive, “utilizes Philips’ latest compact OPU81 triple-laser optical pick-up unit in which separate infra-red, red and blue lasers share the same optical pathway to provide Blu-ray Disc read/write capabilities as well as read/write compatibility with DVD and CD,” says the story, going on:

“This compact optical pick-up unit is based on a flexible architecture, allowing future speed improvements to be easily and cost-effectively implemented.”

The news follows JVC’s announcement that it has developed the world’s first Blu-ray/ DVD combo ROM disc technology to allow storage of video in both high and standard definition.

The Philips prototype will be demo’d at the the upcoming CES 2005 exhibition.
