Harper on strike: Ignatieff, Layton ‘vent anger’

p2pnet view P2P | Politics:- Stephen Harper and his crew may be out on strike, but other Canadian  politicians are turning up for work.

In a move described by The Economist as a glaring example of “naked self interest”, Harper decided to close parliament down.

Canadians across the country united in protest and today “Liberal and New Democrat MPs will make a show of returning to work as scheduled this morning,” says CTV, going on:

“Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and NDP Leader Jack Layton both plan to hold events on the Hill to vent anger over the Conservatives’ decision to suspend Parliament until March 3.”

Will Harper continue to act like a dictator instead of a representative of the people who elected him?

Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, the Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament continues to gather steam.

At 6:25 am Pacific, 215,922 people had signed up, 103 videos were online, and there were 19,056 page links.

However this is resolved, Harper’s actions won’t be forgotten and it’s now a solid gold certainty any hopes he may have had of somehow winning another election have been ground into the dirt.

    Compared to Jack”I don’t know my ass from a hole in the ground” Layton, and Michael “I’m the best bet for Canada even tho the UNITED STATES is my country” Ignatieff, Harper is an angel. Hell, he may have put Parliament on hold till March, but with those two idiots breathing down his back you would too. Layton vacillates from bad mouthing both Harper and Ignatieff to praising one or the other. Ignatieff, who thinks that he’s GOD and what he says is the truth, needs to take a long good hard look at himself in the mirror and realize that he’s nothing more than a narcissistic half wit whose spent the last thirty years globe trotting and is definitely not aware of what Canada wants or needs, unless it’s a dose of his thinking.
    They bitch and whine about Harper and his gov’t, yet they haven’t come up with any real solutions to the problems we face in Canada, from Global Warming, to the Kartels and their demands that the gov’t crack down on illegal file sharing, to Media Sentry and their stunts, going after people who they presume are guilty of downloading, when they are not LEGALLY allowed to operate in Canada. To this whole ACTA farce, again brought on at the behest of the Kartels, as we all know the whole thing is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt, hidden under the so called cloak of “NATIONAL SECURITY”, by the Kartels to ram draconian copyright laws down our throats. Hell, they call us Pirates and thieves, when they should be looking at themselves. But I digress, both Layton and Ignatieff have yet to prove to me that either can govern without running whining to the other Political Parties that they have to band together to over throw Harper, yet, to this date they’ve been unable to do so. The reason why is quite simple, no one trusts someone who has to band with his political enemies to make a coalition to run a country it’s too much like Russia in the old days.

    Are you 100% sure of that? Despite the current situation and many mistakes, lacking transparency, etc… Are the other party leaders really any more competent?

    I think that last sentence will be the reason the Conservatives will still have a strong vote.

    Those protesting, were any Conservative supporters in the last election? That would be important information. If none were, they it is not inconceivable that the Conservative party would win the next election.

    @ Robert:

    I’m sure. Harper has demonstrated his utter contempt for the people who elected him. That overshadows everything else.

    Cheers!

  4. Robert Says:

    @Jon,

    Yes he has, and somehow he won in 2008! If he wins again, we are more stupid than those who voted in Bush 2x (if you actually believe he was voted in).

  5. Jon Says:

    @ Robert:

    Does this remind you of anyone? Imagine – if you can – not having a conscience, none at all, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter what you do, no limiting sense of concern for the well-being of strangers, friends, or even family members. Imagine no struggles with shame, not a single one in your whole life, no matter what kind of selfish, lazy, harmful, or immoral action you had taken. And pretend that the concept of responsibility is unknown to you, except as a burden others seem to accept without question, like gullible fools … Since everyone simply assumes that conscience is universal among human beings, hiding the fact that you are conscience-free is nearly effortless. You are not held back from any of your desires by guilt or shame, and you are never confronted by others for your cold-bloodedness. The ice water in your veins is so bizarre, so completely outside of their personal experience, that they seldom even guess at your condition. In other words, you are completely free of internal restraints, and your unhampered liberty to do just as you please, with no pangs of conscience …

  6. Robert Says:

    @Jon,

    Just about every politician, president, prime minister, military leader, corporate executive group, etc… fit into that category, some to a greater degree than others.

    In order to succeed, give in to greed for power and money, you have to be willing to lose (or appear to) your conscience.

    If there is any similarity in Canada to American Politics .. Harper really doesn’t CARE if he gets reelected. He doesn’t need to. He’s done what he was paid to do and has a lucrative future in the private sector because of it. Short-Term disposable politician.

  9. Jon Says:

    @ Dredd:

    There is that, of course …

    Cheers!
