MediaSentry – hard at it in Oz

p2pnet view Freedom | P2P:- Ex-RIAA ‘evidence’ provider MediaSentry is like a really nasty rash.

You think it’s gone. Then it turns up somewhere else.

Acquired by SafeNet Digital Rights Management for $20 million in 2005 it was sold to rival MediaDefender three years later for a paltry $136,000 in cash and the promise of another $800,000.

In the US, where it was apparently operating illegally in a number of states, it was fired by the RIAA. But spurious data it’d dug up against alleged file sharers is still embedded in official court documents.

Although it also functioned this side of the border — “I wanted to give you a heads-up that MediaSentry (yes the very same discredited a**holes!) are still up to their old tricks here in Canada  — Ontario at least!” — we haven’t heard anything about it lately.

But the same can’t be said of Australia where long-term employee Andy Kemp (right), who describes himself as “reliable, detail-oriented, and motivated”, seemingly earns his living by making empty threats on behalf of the kartels.

And yet in May last year, “I can categorically state that Media Sentry are NOT authorised to operate within Australia nor to Intercept communications within Australia no matter what they state in the email,” said G.Thompson, a digital forensics consultant, programmer, lecturer, researcher in a Reader’s Write, continuing:

“In fact stating they can and making published allegations against a specific user with identifiers attached so that the user is made known to other organisations ie: an Australian ISP, Educational Institution, and Rental Accommodation Manager(s) could result in action on defamatory grounds being taken against them if the publication of the information causes damage (which in this case seems likely that it has).

“And thinking they are immune since they are outside Australian jurisdiction would be a folly on their behalf and I kindly draw their attention to Dow Jones and Company Inc v Gutnick [2002] HCA 56 – (http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/cth/HCA/2002/56.html).”

But apparently, that’s exactly what they do think, and with good reason, as evidenced by the fact Kemp is still hard at it in Oz.

Only today a p2pnet reader Dahl in Australia said in a Reader’s Write, “I also got one [A MediaSentry email] today from TPG for the movie 2012 … I guess I am one of many …’

He is indeed.

So when will the Australians authorities do something about MediaSentry?

Stay tuned.

Bloody tugger looks like one of those kids that would report all their classmates for doing things that they themselves were guilty of doing. Here’s hoping that the AUS royal constabulary wakes up and realizes that this clown and his group have no legal right to operate in AUS in any way shape or form and throw them out of the country along with the other drongos -the AFACT group, which has no legal claim to any type of law enforcement business as they are nothing more than more whiners from the Kartels. They claim, like Media Sentry does, to be licensed to operate in AUS, yet they have no legal standing to bring lawsuits against anyone there. I’m waiting for the AUS legal authorities to realize that they’ve been hoodwinked and put the whole lot of them on trial for fraud, illegal prosecution, defamation of character, and whatever other charges they can find to file against them. A. Kemp, is nothing more than the school yard bully and one of these days he’s gonna get exactly what he deserves a damn good beating.
