p2pnet – to go !

p2pnet.net News:- It won’t be long before p2pnet readers will be able to check out the latest in p2p and digital media news – while they’re on the move.

Shareaza moderator Tom ‘Higgy’ Higginson in the UK is writing a couple of scripts to allow people to access p2pnet via mobile devices.

“I’ve been using my phone to access p2pnet.net for about three months using a service provided by Google that converts webpages into WML,” he says. But, “Obviously this doesn’t produce the best output for browsing using something with a screen the size of a passport photo ;)

Higginson has been programming for about ten years, starting with BASIC, “when I was around seven and PHP/MySQL about two-three years ago".

He says he’s made a start on the WAP version and, “I think the hardest part will be splitting up long articles into pages so that devices with smaller memory can cope with them. An easier part will be formatting the pages to suit a mobile device and the easiest of all, I’m guessing, will be getting the actual data to begin with.”

Higginson says he’s been hooked on p2p since he first heard about Napster about three months before it was finally shut down, adding:

“My interest has grown from there and I now occasionally help develop the free, open-source, client, Shareaza."

When will the p2pnet-to-go script be ready?

In a couple of weeks, he hopes.

So watch this space ; p

Cool, although some articles (deck) will be several ‘cards’ to click through – I think a wireless markup language version will be a great addition.

If you guys need any graphcs done (mini versions) I can do up the BMPs and then convert them to WBMPS for Tom (logo etc) if necessary.

I worked on a project he may know, Gamephilez, did all the imagery and layout for that.

    Hullo.

I’m not sure what graphics I’ll need, I hadn’t really planned to have a logo but I suppose I could try and fit it in somewhere. That’d be good :) .

Yes, I’ve heard of Gamephilez ;) . The graphics are pretty good :) .

I’ve got another project I really could do with some graphics for, if you want to help. I’ll email you personally.

    Higgy.

Dunno if anyone still sees this but anyhow…

I’m still waiting for a response from the web hosting company about the database. As soon as I get the information I need I can finish the script and send it to whoever is responsible for putting it on the server.

I having given up on it, don’t worry ;) .

    Higgy.
