Four promises from Yahoo as it enters the war to win the hearts and wallets of computer users by offering a desktop search tool it says will help them plumb the depths of their computer hard drives.

Google and Microsoft already have similar, free applications and now Yahoo has unveiled a version of X1, previously sold by the developers for $74.95 but gratis from Yahoo.

“Immediately locate any email, attachment or contact from Outlook or Outlook Express,” it promises, going on, “Quickly retrieve any file on your computer, regardless of where it is located. Search for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, text, HTML, ZIP and over 200 other file types.”

“Tell it to take your dog for a walk !” (Just kidding ; )
