p2pnet hit with massive DDOS attack
p2pnet view P2P:- Someone out there wants to stop p2pnet from broadcasting news and information the powers-that-used-to-be don’t want reported.
Last night, the p2pnet server in Europe was hit by a massive DDOS attack.
Some 50,000,000 packets arrived over a 300-second period.
p2pnet is hosted by multibox.be in Belgium, and its servers are in turn hosted in Germany’s Hetzner Data centers.
I understand a German court investigation has been launched.
Do you want p2pnet to keep on posting? Then you can be a huge help by becoming a patron.
And stay tuned.
Cheers! And thanks. And all the best …

We know where this is coming from!
We should DDOS Vivendi web site in retaliation!

If anyone has an ideas about returning the favour, PLEASE DON’T !
At this point, we don’t know who’s behind the attack. But there’s a reasonable chance the investigation in Germany will turn up the perps. When we find out who they are, we can use the law in Germany to make them pay.
Cheers! And thanks …

While I agree wholeheartedly with this ..
” If anyone has an ideas about returning the favour, PLEASE DON’T ! ”
I have absolutely no faith in the ‘legal’ system of ANY country when it comes to the actions of the
corporate lackys that run the governments of nearly all countries, and i’m willing to bet that the perps
are connected and financed by the labels, although very ,very discreetly.

@ Dredd:
Normally, I’d agree. But this is cut and dried. It was a DDOS hit and we have all the data. All we lack is a name, or names, and then …
Cheers!

Packages should be packets. Though receiving 50,000,000 packages would be a cool new kind of DDOS attack. We could call it a UPS attack!
February 10th, 2010 at 8:22 pm
@ Aaron:
Yes! I can see it now! Line after line of UPS, Fedex, etc, trucks blocking the streets while the drivers fight with each other so they can deliver their packages.
Good one, Aaron. You’re a true genius.
(Fixed. Can you tell I’m not a techie?)
Cheers! And thanks …

“Yes! I can see it now! Line after line of UPS, Fedex, etc, trucks blocking the streets while the drivers fight with each other so they can deliver their packages.”
hey! This is an idea! let’s conduct an UPS attack against the RIAA by using parasites against parasites!
Few thousand packages a day is possible!

About the law … OPTA and the German/Belgian Law system against these kinds of things are very clear and people get caught believe me
it all depends on the intelligence of the attacker … as far as we know now after investigating it seems like two unsecured dedicated servers are hijacked, one in us and one in austria. Both servers seem to be reinstalled, we are trying to get in touch with the server owners and will try to get their logfiles etc. Both servers … Windows 2003 server … I really don’t understand why some people want to use an operating system for their server that is made by a company specialized in making buggy desktop software and game consoles that break done 1/5 of all times.

Admin of an Win2008 R2 server with MS SQL Server 2008.
)
At cliff:
Why not? Good for administartion and has quite a lot of services for good price.(I used OEM licence
Buggy? Not much. Holes? With proper settings not a problem, biut then make create bad settings on Linux and hackers are all over it as well.
Not MS fault. And funny thing is that my bachelor’s work is about internals of Win2008 R2 and comparsion to alternatives…
(Can somebody help me to understand bashers? When I approach problem scepticaly all I see is zealotness)

What did your traceroute show up? Why IP’s were they coming from? Did it match any known botnet attacks?
February 11th, 2010 at 7:03 pm
OK Window vista is a piece of shit as well as the latest version of office and IE. However from 2K to Win 2003/ XP these OS where pretty solid even though I understand why people might still like to use Linux instead.

We gave all ip information and traceroutes to court. Well Windows … I’m a microsoft partner so it is not that I’m against windows … for gaming on your desktop … it’s even the best choice however on a server I prefer Linux. Even with oem license … it is expansive … sql is only well priced for the crappy express version with some limits … not only in space ussage (4GB or something) but also in max concurent connections … In linux the limit is your machine
A site like p2pnet hosting on windows would require 2 servers.
The management on windows … that is not very correct there are some very good control pannels on Linux and for global management … webmin is really full server management web based.
Security is always a thing of administration and indeed a windows can be nearly as good as linux however there remains a gap … just because they see things different and because windows roots … are on the desktop … that is what they where very good at … for windows vista and 7, I really don’t get it!
