Apple’s record Q1 profits
p2pnet.net News:- The Apple devout are indeed the Apple devout.
The fact the company is suing some of its most ardent and vocal supporters notwithstanding, it’s reporting record profits.
“The champagne corks must have been flying in Cupertino, Calif., as Apple Computer started out its fiscal year with a bang yesterday,” says Forbes. And, “Buoyed by a surge in sales of both iPods and Macs, Apple on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings that soared past expectations,” reports Silicon.com.
Actually, the lawsuits against Think Secret, which correctly said Apple was about to come out with a cheap Mac, and others such as PowerPage and AppleInsider, are recent and therefore wouldn’t have been reflected on Apple’s year-end balance sheets.
But it probably wouldn’t have mattered even if they’d been lodged on January 1, 2004, because thanks to music lovers – and the Apple faithful, of course – Apple has survived to post a net profit of $295 million, compared to a $63 million for the same period last year.
Revenue for the quarter was $3.49 billion, up 74% from the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 28.5%, up from 26.7% in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 41% of the quarter’s revenue.
Apple shipped 1,046,000 Macs and 4,580,000 iPods during the quarter for a 26% increase in CPU units and a staggering 525% increase in iPods over the year-ago quarter.
