Sincere apologies to Google: p2pnet
p2pnet view P2P:- This morning I tore a strip off Google for running a Winter Olympics logo bearing the image of a luge competitor.
“Was this an awful coincidence? Or is it Google deliberately exploiting the occurrence?” – I asked, referring to yesterday’s tragedy when Georgian luge competitor Nodar Kumaritashvili was killed after being thrown off his sled.
It was apparently neither.
According to Tom Fulp in a Reader’s Write, “The Google logo was on their site before the accident happened.”
That being so, I apologise without reservation to Google and the Google artist for thinking ill of them.

Your constant attacks on Google are getting old. It is just a company like any other company nothing more, nothing less

^^ I’m sorry for the luge post, and I said so prominently and publicly as soon as I found out about my mistake.
Google has a lot to answer for.
But it never does.
Cheers!

I always think big of someone that has the balls to apologize, like you have just done, Jon.
These big corps have indeed a lot to answer for. I’d rather you ‘attack’ and out their bad behaviour again and again and have to apologize once in a while for a mistake, than be a compliant lapdog for them – which ya ain’t. (grin)

“Your constant attacks on Google are getting old. It is just a company like any other company nothing more, nothing less”
Meanwhile, Google continues to justify Jon’s concerns.
The recent launch of Buzz completely PROVED that Google is a classic psychopathic corporation.
Here you have a huge company, composed of hundreds of NETWORKING EXPERTS and SOFTWARE ENGINEERS, that launches an social networking application that immediately begins to AUTOMATICALLY share all the available personal information of ALL GMAIL USERS, BEFORE any of those users even had a chance to scrutinize what it was, what it did, and what the implications were.
Buzz was launched, TURNED ON, and in an ACTIVE STATE!
Regardless of whether the users had or hadn’t created a profile, or even heard about Buzz, or whether or not they’d even demonstrated any intention to use it, Buzz was operating for EVERYONE, sharing EVERYTHING, to EVERYONE ELSE from the get-go.
I would challenge anyone to explain how such a technically savvy company, with some of the foremost experts on cyberspace and all its idiosyncrasies, would not have had FULL KNOWLEDGE of what they were doing.
The people at Google knew exactly what they were doing.
They knew what would happen, who it would affect, and why.
They just didn’t feel any of that was “important”.
What was important (to them!) was accomplished.
Classic psychopathic behaviour.
Those who don’t think we should be questioning Google on a number of things at this point, truly need their heads examined.

Okay, so Google didn’t do anything wrong here, but…
Jon simply made an honest mistake. He was not the first or the only one to have made the same assumption about the appearance of the luge image. That’s because Google’s own behaviour now regularly generates lots of suspicion.
Google, on the other hand, makes no apologies and seldom admits even the most serious “errors”. Even when it was obvious that Buzz was causing massive, unnecesary collateral damage, Google didn’t turn it off! Not for a minute. They’re installing changes on the fly that may or may not improve things, and not offering either a timeframe for this, or even any containment measures for the problem itself.
How’s that for acknowledging their own “mistake”, or even the impact of it??!
Google’s concern over this is absolutely touching!
Again, classic psychopathic behaviour.

Fuck em !

There are people who are just to sensitive. Google did absolutely nothing wrong in posting the image of a luge. Nor did they make a mistake. It is those who complained who are taking advantage of the accident. A man dies doing something he loves, and others think any image of what he loved should be hidden from view.

Anyone could have made this mistake. But not everyone posts their immediate criticisms to their blogs for the world to see. It’s only natural I suppose. You retracted your statements and I applaud that. Though completely coincidental I admit to thinking “wtf is this a tribute” after seeing the google logo minutes after watching the now famed Georgian Lugers last race.

@ Anthony:
You kind of miss the point, Anthony. I’m not suggesting the image should be “hidden from view”.
Cheers!
