New SunnComm deal. Maybe.
p2pnet.net News:- DRM firm SunnComm says it’s struck a deal with Big Four record cartel member Universal Music Group (UMG).
SunnComm’s MediaMax copy protection technology is distinguished more by the fact it’s been hacked and hacked again than by its roaring success.
If you can hear it, you can copy it, with all that implies, and there are thousands of extremely clever people out there who regard DRM as a challenge.
These days, SunnComm won’t let you on its site unless you’ve acknowledged a statement which starts, “Our 4-year old company is currently in the development stage of its life-cycle and, to date, has only just begun earning revenues from sales of its CD copy management.”
However, if it plans to use UMG as an example of its success, it may have to wait.
“The world’s largest music company may choose at some point to elect the use of [SunnComm's] MediaMax technology," SunnComm said, states The Register’s Ashlee Vance, going on:
“SunnComm will receive a royalty from UMG should the company decide to use the technology. MediaMax is one of several technologies currently under review by UMG."
