Spy on cellphone providers, China ISPs told

p2pnet view Mobiles | Politics:- ISPs in China have been told to spy on mobile providers and if porn is found, to cut them off or blacklist them.

“Due to a lack of efficiency in monitoring the new technology, the illegal pornography industry has increasingly shifted its focus to mobile phones because of the faster download speed on pictures and videos”, says China Daily.

“Offensive material transmitted via mobile phones will be the main target of a crackdown on Internet porn, it was announced Wednesday, as authorities unveiled tougher measures to clean up the telecommunications industry”, it says.

Tougher measures will introduced “to fight illegal mobile phone and Internet content providers as it has become much easier for them to evade supervision by the relevant authorities”, says the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), “according to the story

Pornographic content “usually exists as a result of subcontracting out servers” and the MITT wants operators to “provide effective remediation measures to streamline the problem”, it says.

The measures aim to “protect the healthy growth of the next generation and clean the social environment,” the MIIT statement said.

The Ministry of Culture said in a recent notice that it plans to draft a regulation on the management of mobile entertainment this year, which will also “focus on cleaning up mobile porn”, states the story.

China shut down a further 16,000 web sites “found to contain lewd or pornographic content”, said China Daily a week ago.

“Statistics from the International Communication Office of the CPC Central Committee show that, since the crackdown was launched in last December, more than 850,000 pictures and 1.3 million messages with lewd or pornographic content were deleted”, said the story, stating 24 network operators had been “named and shamed for providing services for such web sites”.
