Toshiba’s remote PC control
p2pnet.net News:- “Ubiquitous Viewer“
It looks almost like one of those weird, computer-generated code names the US military comes up with for enemy radar.
In fact, it’s the rather cool name Toshiba has chosen for rather cool software – an application supporting remote PC operation from a mobile phone.
Safe data transfers are managed by secure socket layer (SSL) encryption and by a one-time password for opening the link between the mobile phone and PC, promises the company.
Ubiquitous Viewer provides access to any Windows-based home or office computer and allows users to open apps such as the MS Office suite and to read and modify files.
It also supports access to PC-based e-mail, browser and other applications at any time, wherever users may be, says Toshiba.
“The software, developed in collaboration between content and service providers, was created by devising a mobile phone menu to facilitate remote access and use of the PC, and applying an advanced data compression technology to support rapid transfer of vast amounts of information between the PC and mobile phone,” it says.
“Secure data transfers are achieved by secure socket layer (SSL) encryption and by use of a one-time password for opening the link between the mobile phone and PC. “
Ubiquitous Viewer will debut in CDMA1X mobile phones from KDDI’s au, and Toshiba says it’ll make the application available to other carriers in Japan and overseas, “in the near future”.
Subscribers of au will be able to access the service by the end of March 2005.
