Virus writer without shame

p2pnet.net News:- “Virus writing should be illegal,” writes F-Secure manager of antivirus research Mikko Hyppönen in what amounts to a blog-a-torial.

“And it should be illegal globally.”

What got him going were the entrepreneurial efforts of one Marcos Velasco from Brazil who’s, “completely openly writing viruses and making them available from his website to anyone, anywhere in the world,” says Hyppönen.

“Apparently this is not illegal in Brazil. So any kid, any lunatic, any anarchist anywhere can download all his viruses complete with sourcecode and do whatever they want with them.

“And Mr. Velasco has no problem with this. In fact, he has just given an interview about his activities to a Finnish magazine ITViikko. The interview has been published in English on mobilemonday.net.

“Writing viruses is wrong. Distributing them is even worse.

“It should be illegal, too.”

without virus writers, hackers would have a much easier time invading people’s computers.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

So, interesting story, but I ask, is there such a person as a virus writer WITH any shame?

  3. Reader's Write Says:

The most bizare twist is that what prompted him to publish
the src code was that the finnish security company doubted
that he had written the upgrade!

But, hey let’s face it the virus-protection types (macafee, symantec, etc, etc, etc) all really actually *need* new
viruses, or else they’d go out of business. if you think about
it the information super-i-way, is just more “evolution in
action”. of course, if people would spend their time writing
software that would improve the world situation, i’m sure
that some super-conglomerates would find a way to charge
    people for it.
