Hi all.

I am a SuprNova IRC admin, and we take great pride in running the SuprNova IRC network. The above article is a fake. This person claims to be an "Admin" of the IRC network, which would seem to indicate to me that they are Network Administrators. There are 4 total, and I can assure you that none of us wrote the above drivel.

It looks to me like FUD.

You people have to be sheep. The wave of opinion seems to be against eXeem and you people just have to follow along huh?

I can tell you right now that no one made any money off suprnova. All the donations and ad revenue went towards the servers (plural, we required a lot to keep you people stocked with stuff to download)

And eXeem doesn't have any spyware that you are forced to have. The toolbar is optional. The cydoor that is installed just gets the ads and PLACES THEM WHERE THEY NEED TO BE. Thats it. Now why don't you all stop following the crowd or listening to just anyone who "claims" they are part of the suprnova staff.

Cydoor is registered in much security software as Spyware, because is doesn't just show ads!

Firefox is not just free, you can now buy support for it, this is not an isolated case.

In the company I work for the main source of revenue is not the software or hardware we sell, but support contracts, serious money there it's good enough.

I'm a developer, but recognise that development is not enough, since a good part of my job and pay is support related.

Hmmm, these are interesting points. But still I (I wrote the comments with the "hypocrites") think that it is not a good idea, or in the interest of all users that all software be free.

Let's take a look at e-mails. They are free - and they are turning into an impossible medium because of this - SPAM has taken over.

Let's take a look at browsers - they are free, and thus nobody would make a browser "for a living". M$ stopped developing those, it is a monopoly. So yeah, we have firefox now. But not all software can be open-source and free.

Not all software developers can devote their time and energy for free. Some of us actually do it for a living.

Open-Source is great for some things, but not it cannot be sustainable in my opinion - it will lead to bad software in the long run - it is good when people have something to "fight against" like M$, basically.

Still, I do not find Cydoor so obstusive - these are just ads, what's the harm?

But I agree I'm not 100% sure here, and it is not all black-and-white in this issues.

People do deserve good, quality software for free.

There are people out there who will write good, quality software and not try to charge for it, cripple it with "free" versions, and there are even people who will write software which does not depend on intrusive, annoying ads.

Why, if people are willing to write good software and allow other people to use it for free, does that make the people who think good software can (and should) be free "the real hypocrites"?

Do you ask people to buy the software you write? If you do, do you assert that people who offer similar software for free are wrong or bad? Do you further assert that people who make a conscious choice to use quality free software are still "hypocrites" because they resist making the choice to pay for software, or see ads?

Just because television contains ads doesn't mean everything else should.

The point is, wanting something for free is not "wrong" or "hypocritical". If people chose to avoid software which is ad-supported, that is their choice as a human being.

Furthermore, if we have to wait until more people are willing to write "good" software for free, I think its worth the wait. Purchased software at this point isn't free of bugs anyway, and the ammount of quality free software is growing every day. People have a right to point out when software doesn't meet their expectations, as many are doing with eXeem. They believe they have been lied to and tricked. If the programmers of eXeem want people to stop voicinng their concerns, then they should fix the problem (remove Cydoor/ads in the program). If they chose not to do that, then people have every right to voice their dislike of such software, and they furthermore have the right not to use such programs. This is not hypocricy.

People should grow to expect good quality software for free, it exists, and its not hypocritical to desire it.

No one is against ads per se. Straight ads, that is. But a lot of people (me included) are very much against privacy invasion as represented by some of the apps out there that collect info which, in turn, ends up in corporate data bases where it's used to 'target' people.

You can ignore an ordinary roadside bill-board. But you can't ignore one that follows you home, watches what you do and then reports back to the company that booked the space so it can send a greasy, intrusive hard-sell salesman to your door - a salesman who won't go away, even when you slam the door in his/her face.

Cheers!

I love how they still try to say they didnt write it.

Its not their fault... bs.

The company behind exeem just happens to be owned by the guy who ran suprnova.

And it should be obvious to anyone paying attention that the suprnova guys never cared about ANYTHING but money.

Donations.. selling tshirts.. ads. popups. more ads. ads that also install trojans.. (oh we didnt know about that. not our fault)

All from suprnova. the people who didnt provide ANYTHING. no trackers. no releases. no seeds. all they had was a big list of other peoples stuff.

So they are still selling other peoples stuff. and have some spyware too! oh its not our fault. we dont own exeem. we just pimp it.

I think the real hypocries are the people that expect free software, but do not want to either pay or see ads.

I'm a shareware author myself (Not using adware, actually). It is very hard to get sales, it is a lot of effot, and definitly not "worth" it (But it is fun, and exciting).

So why are you guys against ads? I mean, so Cydoor delivers ads to your computer. Big deal? Are you watching TV with ads? will you prefer to remove the ads but pay hunders of $$$ a year to get these shows for free?

I don't get it. Writing software is a business, and you have to earn some money. Either sell it (Very tough in the P2P business, becuase of the free alternatives) or put ads. Cydoor is not as obstrusive as some other options.

I'm not objective here, for several reasons, but it seems to me that people just think they deserve good, quailty software for free. You won't get it - you'll just kill the good software.

how so? thats how just about everyone talks...if it were tone of voice or a written in ink letter, then perhaps. But any intellectual can write a letter over the internet and stay anonymous with those sentences. IF you read it, the person has 2 sides of himself "he quitely sits back and agrees that its fine" so to everyone he talks to, they think he's cool with it. Again, over the internet its easy to have 2 sides to a story without people finding out. Also with the lines you indicated, For one i do not agree, most importantly, and I myself feel...theres absolutely nothing about those that can tell you about a person. Thats just proper grammar. Stop acting like a smart ass...if anything your the one with ego-laden grammAr you imbecile...

how can you trace him by his grammAr if you cant even spell the damn word right

Like I said in previous posts. The media Cartels do not much mention Linux and/or opensource. I have not had a virus or spyware in years, yet I can copy, rip and burn DVD'ds, legally download great software for no money at all, participate in p2p networks and create and distribute my music and video. I can also produce my won web content, play games such as Heretic 2, and much more. I can do all of this and not pay a cent because I choose to buck the system and not use Microsoft Windows (which is a product of the Software Cartels). I find Linux actually easeir to use than Windows. Yes, it used to be harder to install Linux than Windows, but that is no longer the case in most circumstances.

As far as support for hardware goes, Linux supports much more hardware than Microsoft does. It is the manufacturers that write the support for their hardware, not Microsoft. Hardware manufacturers are finding that they are losing marketshare or potemtial marketshare by their lack of Linux support, so more and more Hardware vendors are hopping onto the bandwagon. The ones who refuse to provide information to developers or drivers for Linux are finding drivers being hacked for Linux anyway.

The software Cartel is REALLY AFRAID of Linux and is sacrificing nothing to find a way to stop it. If you want a solution to the spyware problem, start by going to http://www.sourceforge.net and searching for your p2p software there (yes, there is plenty there for Winblows) or you can go to http://www.freelink.cx and learn about making the big switch to Linux. I would like to see the same thing happen to music and movies that is now happening to software. I would also like to see alternative (from hand to hand) distribution methods as well in case the media cartels find a way to shut down the free flow of information on the Net. WE HAVE THE POWER!

Couldn't it be said that eXlite is in some ways, a pirated version of eXeem? Don't you find it slightly ironic that a program that is used almost extensively for pirating applications is now itself being pirated because people will not tolerate the built-in spyware? I personally would rather purchase a license to use eXeem for a couple of bucks rather than have to deal with this Cydoor spyware. By incorporating spyware into eXeem I feel as though the eXeem team has betrayed the very principles of file-sharing. They have turned an innovative idea into a "get rich quick" scheme. In my opinion they have committed a sin against the BitTorrent interface by incorperating spyware. eXeem is a prime example of how a great company can completely screw up. Suprnova was great, but I don't trust eXeem with Cydoor spyware at all. eXlite can then be viewed as the manifestation of the intolerance of people to deal with spyware.

You are not anonymous with a letter of that length. You use a lot of phrases that are easily traced. "For one I do not agree", "most importantly", "I myself feel". I hope you don't want to lose your job, I could trace your ego-laden grammer in seconds.

In the future, keep your grammer simple and short in your anonymous emails.

How are they sellouts? They don't have to make this program for everyone. They can do what they want with it.

The worst sell-out is when a guy who thinks he's doing something that goes against his own principles, does it anyway, and doesn't speak up openly about it. That's selling your soul, integrity, and freedom of speech out.

I'd happily get fired rather than do something like that. I'm sorry for the guy, but if he feels so strongly against it, he should do something. As it is, he just looks like a coward.
