Microsoft abandons EU fight

p2pnet.net News:- “Jaws drop all over the world as the software giant elects not to exercise its right to appeal the sanctions placed upon it by a European Union court.”

That’s the way DevShed sums up Microsoft’s decision not to appeal sanctions imposed on it by the European Union which will force it to offer Windows without its Media Player; and, to reveal source code to help European software makers create competitive Windows-compatible applications.

The EU ruled Microsoft bundled Media Play with Windows to, “usurp rival programmes such as RealNetworks’s RealPlayer and Apple Computer’s QuickTime,” says the BBC.

“The ruling, back in March 2004, also came with a record 497m euros(£331m; $613m) fine, the largest Brussels has ever issued against a company in a competition case.”

Bill and the Boyz lost their bid to delay implementation of the sanctions last December.

Microsoft says the new version will be available “in the coming weeks”.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

does this mean the beginning of the end for a big business monopoly like mircosoft to lose it’s iron grip on it’s market share?

The biggest problem bill gates has is HE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH BUSINESS COMPETITION.

That is precisely why he has gotton away with his half ass security issue ridden and overpriced operating system.

you would think by now windows xp would go to the second rate status of shareware computer programs.

    HONESTLY……………

The computer hardware industry has some pretty awesome computer components but it’s all held together by a HALF ASS OPERATING SYSTEM like windows xp.

Microsoft corporation has much the same problems like people in the prerecorded dvd and cd vendor industry and the patent holders on dvd technology:

THEY RUN A SHERMAN ACT LIKE BIT OF A CONSUMER RIPOFF TYPE OF BUSINESS MONOPOLY.
