Microsoft to remove swastika
Microsoft seems to be having memory problems. Having forgotten to send out an important security fix, it now admits it also forgot to remove a typefont containing swastikas from its latest version of Office.
However, it’ll provide tools to remove and replace the offending characters – included in Microsoft’s "Bookshelf Symbol 7" font – it’s quoted as saying in a Reuters story here.
The swastika, used German dictator Adolf Hitler as his symbol, is now experiencing a resurgence with hate groups in North America and Europe.
One form has been used in the Buddhist religion to symbolize the feet or footprints of the Buddha and, "The symbol, which was also used widely in the ancient world including Mesopotamia, Scandinavia, India and the Americas, became common in China and Japan with the spread of Buddhism," says Reuters.
