Blaster Master sentenced

p2pnet.net News:- US District Judge Marsha Pechman, who once said Blaster Master Jeffrey Lee Parson, “isn’t going to be like other teenagers, who can take the family car, go to parties, go to the beach,” seems to be blaming Parson’s parents for his problems.

Sentencing him to 18 months in jail for turning a variant of the Blaster worm loose, the Net has, “created a dark hole, a dungeon if you will, for people who have mental illnesses or people who are lonely,” she’s quoted as saying by the Associated Press.

“I didn’t see any parent standing there saying, ‘It’s not a healthy thing to lock yourself in a room and create your own reality’.”

Parson, now 19, pleaded guilty to attempting to cause damage to a protected computer and to, “modifying the Blaster Internet worm and using it to launch a distributed denial-of-service attack against a Microsoft Windows update Web site as well as personal computers,” says the Times.

US attorney Annette Hayes wanted to see him in jail for 37 months and ordered to pay $622,500 in restitution to Microsoft and several hundred dollars each to 12 other victims.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

This kid didn’t even create the original blaster worm. I remember an article about how the FBI knew about this all along and asked him to create a variant, or something like that. Anyway, as much as I hate viruses like blaster, I think 18 months is way too much especially since he just modified the original blaster virus.

This is pathetic. What crime did he commit? Was this virus released into the wild??? Did it actually damage any computers?

What is a similar crime that gets 18 months in jail? Premeditated assault?

This kid is gonna get eaten alive in jail, then come out a psycho with a grudge.
