Censorship affects profits: Google
p2pnet view Advertising:- Alan Davidson, ‘public policy’ spokesman for Google, says the US “should consider withholding development aid” for countries restricting “certain Web sites”.
That’s an extreme step.
But given Google’s problems with China, this must be all about standing against censorship.
Nope. Well, Yes. Kind of.
It’s all about Censorship of the Almighty Dollar.
According to Davidson, quoted by the New York Times, “censorship had become more than a human rights issue”.
Now it’s really bad.
It’s “hurting profit for foreign companies that rely on the Internet to reach customers”, he says.
More than 40 countries “actively censor the Internet currently,” he says, according to the story, which goes on, “and 25 governments have blocked Google over the last several years”.
Say it ain’t SOOOOO!
Davidson suggests “asking countries to pledge to keep sites unfiltered in international trade agreements”.
No need to stay tuned.
