Ann Coulter gets a warm welcome in Calgary
p2pnet view P2P | Politics:- Infamous US agitator Ann Coulter (right) thought it was home away from home when she travelled to Calgary.
Intimidated by her reception at the University of Ottawa where she’d been scheduled to give a speech, she turned tail and ran.
Protestors had in part been angered by her earlier talk at the University of Western Ontario when Coulter told a Muslim girl she (the girl) needed to take a camel because Muslim people shouldn’t fly.
But she “hit the jackpot in Calgary, says the Globe and Mail.
The city also had also extended a warm welcome to ex-us president George W. Bush almost exactly a year ago.
“It was at a $400-a-head private luncheon co-hosted by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce”, said p2pnet at the time. “He’s said to have received $150,000 for his talk, his first since retiring in ignomy.
“Plus expenses, of course.”
For Coulter’s visit, “While there were some protesters outside the venue and security was tight, there were no major incidents”, says the Globe and Mail, going on:
“Even when the G8 summit was held in nearby Kananaskis Country in 2002, protests were small, mellow and trouble-free, unlike raucous events that marred similar international meetings in Seattle and Quebec City.”
The story doesn’t say how much she was paid.

Also, Calgary Southwest is home riding of the prime minister George W. Harper.

Calgary Centre-North is home riding of the then ACTA frontman Jim Prentice. His current job is to destroy our environment.

Anyone notice yet the lawyer writing coulters CHRC complaint letter?
He stepped down in 2002, in Calgary, to give control of the party to G.W. harper.
Just an FYI in case you didn’t know.
This is the same clown using propaganda phrases quoted in the news media on the coulter events.
“Un-Canadian” to protest. etc etc…
Dig deeper….

She keep insulting canadians and she really believe that she is going to give a talk into a canadian university without dissension?
Come on! This is part of the life of a troll. Hello! The money she is making trolling is not free.
I don’t think she was afraid for her security. I believe that she could not take the dissension that would have hurt her career as a troll.

No she wasn’t scared. It was all theater. There is an agenda you know, particularly within Ottawa, particularly directed at certain people within the CHRC (Canadian Human Rights Commission).
This was a stance, a show, targeted.
Although i think i do agree *to an extent* on the issue being raised, which by the way has nothing to do with Coulter.
There are other *forces* at play here. Maybe some type of targeted payback as well.
More is going to come of this.

Yeah, because allowing someone to speak, is the same as giving them a “big welcome”.
Fuck you, Globe and Mail!
Every article about Calgary/Alberta they write about spins the headline and story into a giant hate-on. It seems to generate a lot of hits and comments on their website stoking this pervasive anti-Alberta sentiment. It was the same crap when Bush came to speak. The commentary was that only in Alberta, would Bush be welcomed to speak. Yet one month later he spoke to a sold out audience in Toronto. Then again, teh same shit was published in their paper when Sarah Palin came to town. Apparently she was welcomed as a hero to oil country, yeeehaw!!!! Yeah right, like most Albertans see remotely eye-to-eye with someone like Palin.
Anyone outside of Alberta who honestly takes this tripe seriously needs to get their head out of their ass.

Some of you posters here should be ashamed, promoting your ignorant anti-Western, anti-Alberta stereotypes.
That Globe and Mail article is crap.
March 25th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Anti-western? No.
What the American Admin is pushing out and forcing unto others? Yes.
Alberta? You mean the same political puppets who gave Chretien lip for not joining the US in its invasion and “Holy War”? Eh, we all have our views of the Alberta puppets. Do you even know who they are?
Meanwhile, as stated up above:
“Although i think i do agree *to an extent* on the issue being raised, which by the way has nothing to do with Coulter.”
http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/785037–coulter-s-right-to-free-speech-defended?bn=1
David Eby, executive director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association added, “We are firm believers that even ignorant ideas need to be heard and discussed.
“We don’t succeed at eliminating racism or dealing with the issues of multiculturalism if we suppress the ability of people to speak their minds.”
As stated above there is a bigger issue, one that was targeted, nothing to do with coulter, by someone with a chip on his shoulder (which you can’t lay fault with when you dig into it)
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated yesterday:
http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/289534
“Appearing just 48 hours after Ann Coulter spoke at the London university, Kennedy found it impossible to skirt all mention of his right-wing nemesis. “Ann Coulter represents the darkest side of the American character,” Kennedy told his audience. One of the easiest things to do is to appeal to the darkest side of our character . . . our bigotry and hatred . . . and self interest and racism and tribalism . . . to appeal to selfishness.” ”
He then went on along the lines of, she represents the corporations eating at American and which led to the current crisis (something like that, someone else can find the quote).
One thing is a common denominator:
-Hatred
-Bigotry
-Racism
-Self interest
-”Forces”
Am I ashamed? No.
Am I “Un-Canadian”? No.
This person who represents (as reported) hate, Bigotry, Racism was allowed free access while the CHRC blocks access to others. Why?
CHRC will have to answer to that.
If you use google, you will even find Harper himself said he is afraid of the CHRC.
There are a few issues surrounding this. Coulter, though i don’t care for her, played them all very well (or the maestro’s of her orchestra did).
It will be one of those things that gets buried in the media. The news definitely isn’t Coulter.
wakey-wakey

I am shocked that many people that come to this site promote free speech and other freedoms but when it comes to something they don’t like, they are so anti-free. You either have free speech or you don’t. I guess government push Politically Correct Speech has won over the hearts of many here.
Many of those pushing P. C. speech are also the ones that have made law enforcement agencies skittish about looking into possible radical statements and terror attacks because of the fear of Racial Profiling. Look how that worked in Fort Hood. It has also been used by the terrorists to allow them safe hiding places within religious institutions.
It is easier to allow someone to speak in public where you can show that their statements are full of crap or you can push them underground where the followers never get to see the other side in an open and honest public debate and allowing them to grow a larger following.
Sorry if you feel that Alberta is not like Toronto but you may be shocked to find that even in Ontario, there are people that find our points of views much better than those of Liberal heart land. Note, bigotry is a pretty open term and if you don’t like the vies in Alberta, you earn the same label. “Bigotry – stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one’s own.”
Is this the Canada you want? A Canada where speakers are told “McGill ethicist Margaret Somerville, who was once advised by a university to wear flat shoes in case she had to run, said groups on campuses have become skilled at silencing debate. “I think it is extraordinarily dangerous,” she said.”

@Robin:
Free Speech doesn’t include hate mongering.
Never did.
March 26th, 2010 at 1:56 pm
Hate monger (a few definitions):
1) A person who uses political beliefs or passions of any kind as a platform to express their hatred for another individual.
2) A media personality who spreads hate under the guise of a political affiliation or a religious belief.
Coulter uses both her “Conservative” and “Media” platforms to promote vitriolic hatred of all who oppose white christian dominance. It’s really a no-brainer.

Calgary is the Fascism base of Canada so I am not surprised.
