LimeWire ‘Most Downloaded’
p2pnet.net News:- LimeWire 4.2 was the most downloaded file-sharing program for the week ending January 30th, with 807,611 downloads (35,721,705 total) on Download.com.
This placed the guaranteed adware- and spyware-free p2p client in the Number 2 spot out of 50 apps.
It was sandwiched, interestingly, between Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition (1,615,231, total 105,460,980) and Patrick Kola’s excellent, and free, SpyBot-S&D (642,521, total 47,234,406).
LimeWire has also been the most downloaded Mac software item for many months, says coo Greg Bildson.
“No other file-sharing program has come close to the same number of downloads for this time period, with rival Morpheus downloaded 187,459 times, iMesh 274,123 times, and BearShare 420,608 times for the same week,” says the company.
The Gnutella network, which includes LimeWire, iMesh, Morpheus and BearShare, peaked with 1.4 million concurrent users during the same period.
“Users don’t want adware or spyware sneaked in with a file-sharing program,” says Bildson. “LimeWire is pure file-sharing technology with no spyware and no adware, and we’ve seen our user base grow steadily because of it.”
