McCartney at the Super Bowl
p2pnet.net OT News:- Janet Jackson’s deliberate or accidental (depending on who you believe) flashing of one of her breasts during last year’s Super Bowl continues to inspire headline writers.
Beatle Sir Paul McCartney was the light relief during this year’s Super Bowl.
Super Bowl keeps abreast of censors, said Australia’s The Age, going on: “Does anybody remember who won last year’s Super Bowl? Or even who played in it? No. But everybody remembers …
Sir Paul keeps it clean, said the Sydney Morning Herald: “Hey, dude … a fully clothed Paul McCartney provides the half-time entertainment at the Super Bowl in Florida.”
McCartney plays it safe at halftime gig, wrote the Arizona Republic: “A year after a media explosion over Janet Jackson’s infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction,’ Sir Paul McCartney restored some sanity to the Super Bowl halftime show …”
No sex please, it’s the Super Bowl, was the IAfrica South African News version: “Ex-Beatles member Sir Paul McCartney wowed fans with a live mini concert at half-time in the American Super Bowl on the weekend, avoiding any Janet Jackson …”
Paul McCartney’s safe halftime show offended no one, but bored many, said the Detroit News: “No, McCartney didn’t flash a mammary gland, a la Janet Jackson, but more jaded viewers might …”
Rock on.

The only problem with Sir Paul’s performance at the Super Bowl? It just wasn’t long enough. Bravo Paul!
February 7th, 2005 at 3:10 pm
I thought it was a good half time show.
February 7th, 2005 at 3:14 pm
Here here. I personally thought it was the best half-time show I’ve ever seen.
I think the main reason they didn’t have women dancing anywhere near Sir Paul’s performance (except the crowd) was because they didn’t want everyone getting nervous and expecting another ‘wardrobe malfunction’. They just wanted everyone to enjoy the show and not not be expecting something like ‘ripped crotchless pants’ from Sir Paul.
Besides, how many Bowl watchers really want to see an intimate body part flashed by a 62-year-old man?
February 7th, 2005 at 3:22 pm
I think that was one of the best half time shows ever! The viewer was able to focus on the music and artist, rather than being overrun with a bunch of kids or girls dancing around. GREAT JOB!

IN REGARDS TO THE DETROITS NEWS ABOUT PAUL MCCARTNEY BEING BORING AT SUPER BOWL HALFTIME…WHERE HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN ALL THESE YEARS?? I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO ENJOYED IT AND WE ALL BREATHED A SIGN OF RELIEF WHEN WE FOUND OUT HE WAS PLAYING. AT LEAST WE CAN UNDERSTAND THE WORDS TO THE LYRICS!!! AND DETROIT NEWS SHOULD SHOW A LITTLE RESPECT FOR ONE OF THE GREATEST TOP ENTERTAINERS IN THE WORLD.
February 7th, 2005 at 3:25 pm
I was IMPRESSED!!! The stage was AWESOME!! I am sure some people didn’t like it, but you know what? I didn’t have to send my children out of the room because of “Adult Material”. They watched it, and asked alot of questions.
I almost didn’t even watch the super bowl this year due to what happened last year for the half time show.
The networks are NOT going to get sponsorships and such if people are “concerned” about the content of the words largest football game. It is supposed to be for the family.
In all I don’t see ANYTHING wrong with what Paul McCartney did. I hope to see more shows like this one.
February 7th, 2005 at 3:27 pm
So True!! I think we need to start showing a bit of common sense when it comes to music. I far prefer the old time rock and roll, to the new age garbage spewed by people who call themselves musician today.

DEAR DETROIT NEWS:MAYBE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER
HALFTIME SHOW IF MCCARTNEY WOULD HAVE JUMPED INTO THE
STANDS AND PUNCHED ONE OF THE FANS LIKE THE PISTONS GAME.IT JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW STUPID YOU PEOPLE REALLY
ARE!

Best Super-Bowl half-time show ever. Resulted in my wife and ME (I dont dance often) and my 2 year old daughter all getting up and and dancing in addition to singing. We like everything from Gretchen Wilson to Charlie Daniels to the Black Eyed Peas, to McCartney. Thanks Fox for a vast improvement.

Maybe o.k., but the choice of “Live and Let Die” in the context of current wars was pretty sick.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:10 pm
I agree. I am in the younger crowd, and was if- e at first when I heard the news of Paul McCartney being the headliner. I was concerned about the demographic. However, The chosen songs, audience participation, and the Outstanding display of fireworks… proved beyond the shadow of any doubt that FOX made an excellent decision for viewers of all ages to enjoy! It was entertaining and Im proud to say…Appropriate.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:15 pm
Song Choices… the only thing that would have made the show better, would have been an “I wanna hold your hand” or a “Come together”- “we all shine on”- I think the “Live and Let Die” was a bold choice in effort to catch the attention of those rugged enthused football fans across the country that were missing their half dressed entertainment.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:22 pm
McCartney’s performance was awesome. There probably wasn’t anything better than McCartney performering.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:24 pm
Yeah but the main thing was there was no screw ups this time thanks Paul for giving a wonderful performance.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:30 pm
Do you know the songs back ground? He chose range a songs, which would fit pretty much all age groups…. McCartney nor are his songs “sick” in anyway.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:30 pm
Yes, and with the fireworks during that song that didn’t explode into pretty colors but looked more like missles exploding into flame, the war time imagry was obvious. And then to cap it all off with a picture of the Statue of Liberty was more pro-American war propaganda. I felt sick too.

THE BEST SHOW EVER, IT JUST DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER. SIR PAUL IS ONE OF A KIND.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:35 pm
Magnificent. What a way to bridge generations. Just think, those of us that grew up with the Beattles are now the ones with the money and still enjoy their music along with the latest generation. BRAVO
February 7th, 2005 at 4:38 pm
Very good show even if it was to short. Personally I would liked to have heard Twist and Shout. ‘SHAKE IT UP BABY NOW’… Oh, and twenty years from now: “It was the Eagles and the Patriots, Paul McCartney at halftime, and some bunch named after a legume.”
February 7th, 2005 at 4:41 pm
DETROIT NEWS, THE WRITER EVIDENTLY HAS NO ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND CLASSIC ENTERAINMENT. HE MIGHT WANT TO REVIEW THE “WHO’S WHO” IN MUSIC OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS.
February 7th, 2005 at 4:42 pm
I think your impression comes from your own “bad ” feelings. I saw the show and was very pleased. My husband and I danced and sang along . …. … When the 007 song came on…. we both were like “Yahoo” It was all fun. No thoughts of war…. No thoughts of missles… People can find negatives in everything—– that is only if you go looking!
February 7th, 2005 at 4:55 pm
If you knew anything about McCartney is his song was never about war. Your age shows as this song was based upon a James Bond movie. Paul McCartney has never promoted war and in fact one of their albums protested the Vietnam war.
February 7th, 2005 at 5:04 pm
Anyone who said Paul McCartney was boring, as compared to the Janet Jackson fiasco last year, needs to educate themselves what real entertainment is. Talent versus Tastelessness would be a good explanation.
February 7th, 2005 at 5:12 pm
I can remember being a little kid and going to super bowl parties with my parents, mainly from 6-14, and not even watching the game because I didn’t understand the game of football. Kids don’t know how to play football until later in life, like high school or late middle school, unless they play it. Younger Americans don’t watch this game as much as you think, and if they did see something indecent, they wouldn’t know what they were seeing. The only reason they would know what happened is because all the evangelicals that keep bringing the subject up. The human body is one of the most natural things, but yet corporate America keeps hiding it like it’s a dildo in there moms closet. I wish some people would just grow up and live in the real world.
February 7th, 2005 at 5:16 pm
Thanks for your comment. The reviewers keep trying to remind us of what happened last year and seem to have missed an absolutely fabulous performance by one of the world’s great musicians.
Sir Paul put on one hell of a show.
February 7th, 2005 at 5:24 pm
The Guy who commented about “McCartney bored people” should watch only XXX movies and attent some strip clubs. That would be entertaining for some.
This is about REAL music pal, not about tits’n'beer…
February 7th, 2005 at 5:35 pm
How exciting was the half time show? Paul McCartney still has it and shame, shame, on those who say it was boring. The entertainment he has provided over the years and then the Super Bowl surpassed any I have seen in years. Is anyone saying anything about the pre-show disaster?
What a combination of no talent that was on, singing off key and hardly in rythym.
I only wish I could have seen Paul in person.
Those young critics that were speaking to Solidad in the am are hardly the people that should be critisising a great music talent
such as Paul McCartney. How he looks (as the young person said
saying he looks like Angela Lansbury )has nothing to do with his
musical ability.
Truly these young people have very little knowlege of what Paul and the rest of the Beatles have provided to the world, both musical and global contributions which will never be seen again.
Truly these young people need to think before they speak.

I think the show was entertaining and well done. The lighting on the stage was awesome and the songs he chose were great. I think that people should just get over the entire Jackson incident and appriciate great music.
February 7th, 2005 at 6:31 pm
I was glad to see McCartney at the half time show. Finally, something wholesome, good, talented music for us to enjoy… and also safe for your kids to see. Pretty sad when you can’t let your kids watch the Superbowl half time show because of stupid antics like last year.
February 7th, 2005 at 7:01 pm
Exactly what a Half-time show should be!!!!!
February 7th, 2005 at 7:39 pm
I would have been glad to have PAID to witness this half-time show!!! This was like seeing a free concert by one of the 4 kings of our time. At 62, Paul not only looked great (we should all look so good at age 62), but his voice was flawless! The price of admission to those who attended Super Bowl XXXIX was more than a bargain! At the party I attended, there were people there who stated that they were getting chills while watching and listening to Sir Paul. I concur! Unbelievable!!!!
February 7th, 2005 at 7:40 pm
Perhaps the Detroit News report on the Super Bowl halftime show didn’t understand the performance; it’s call style. Glad to see someone finally got the word…and sent last years producers back to college until their minds and faces clear up.
February 7th, 2005 at 8:36 pm
Am I the only one who perceived a bit of a snub at GWB? You Can Drive My Car is materialistic, Get Back is about homosexuals, and Live and Let Die is about war. Finally, to end it, Sir Paul gave us John Lennon’s Hey Jude, which is happy and optimistic. Think about the enormous number of songs at his disposal, and then question why he choose the ones he did. The first three seemed to criticize America today, and only at the end did we get the famous McCartney optimistic and light. His selections sent a message, I think.
February 7th, 2005 at 8:49 pm
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN ANY MORE EXCELLENT THAN SEEING PAUL MCCARTNEY FILL UP THE HALFTIME (USUALLY CRAPTIME) WITH ROCK AND ROLL CLASSICS THAT WILL LIVE ON IN MUSICAL HISTORY FOR DECADES TO COME – WHAT A RUSH !! AND WITH THE ORIGINAL VOICE TO MATCH, MAN WE WERE IN HEAVEN. THE PEOPLE AT THE STADIUM SURE GOT THEIR MONEY’S WORTH, AND I DO NOT MEAN THE GAME. P.S. DETROIT SUCKS.
February 7th, 2005 at 9:10 pm
You are the only one.
February 7th, 2005 at 9:27 pm
Your looking too far into his performance which was fantastic as usual. It seems to me to be more of a time span issue. PS Sir Paul
wrote Hay Jude for John’s Son Jullian. There’s only one Paul McCartney.
February 7th, 2005 at 9:39 pm
Sir Paul McCartney is the most talented entertainer in the world – Half time was great – At least you can understand the lyrics– remembering the Beetles and their music is always
refreshing….
February 7th, 2005 at 9:40 pm
I totally agree…
February 8th, 2005 at 12:29 am
Not Boring, but not the best music selection either.
Should have played:
Twist and Shout
Let it Be
Live and Let Die
Hey Jude

Christ, you are an idiot.
February 8th, 2005 at 2:07 am
I think Paul Mccartney should play next year at the Super Bowl and invite Ringo to play with him.He played good songs and maybe I can see him play.Go Paul!
February 8th, 2005 at 2:31 am
LOVED his hair = )
February 8th, 2005 at 2:56 am
Paul wasn’t on long enough!! We all loved it at our Super Bowl party, and Paul seemed to be having a good time too. You go, Paul!!
February 8th, 2005 at 3:59 am
Apparently a lot of people, including myself, enjoyed McCartney and the half-time show. Perhaps that’s just not interesting enough for the media. “People Enjoy Superbowl Haltime Show” doesn’t sell many papers.
February 8th, 2005 at 4:20 am
After 41 years I wonder how many people will even remenber the names of today’s so called pop artists let alone have them performing at a superbowl ?????? Can you see Brittnay preforming at a superbowl 41 years from now along with her Sagging breast and fat butt????? Paul was looking and sounding good for a fellow his age “63″
May 20th, 2005 at 12:28 am
I never heard anything that was simultaneously so underthought and so overthought. Paul performed big hit songs that everyone would want to hear. Besides, ‘Drive My Car’ is not about materialism per se, as much it’s about using materialism as a last-ditch effort to find love, the real goal. If ‘Get Back’ were about homosexuals, it would be AGAINST them (”Get back to where you once belong”), so wouldn’t that be FOR George W. Bush? And I think ‘Live And Let Die’ would only be anti-war if it were called ‘Live And Let Live’. Plus, how did you ever come to believe that ‘Hey Jude’ was a Lennon song? It’s THAT silly kind of misunderstanding that inspired Paul to credit all his Beatles songs as ‘McCartney-Lennon’.
